Feeling lost

Im 9days postpartum and my milk supply isnt what i expected it to be. I exclusively pump and been getting only 20ml on an average per pump. Been giving her formula and feel so lost. 😞 How do i increase my milk supply, tried drinking a lots of fluids and it doesn’t seem to be helping.

As you are already doing, make sure you have plenty to drink but also eat as well. Are you doing skin to skin with baby? Putting baby in skin to skin in contact with the breast can stimulate milk production even if not latching. How often are you pumping and for how long? I can get as much in 20 minutes as I do in 40 so don’t keep them on for ages if not producing more in that last 20 mins. You could try power pumping: pump for 20, wait for 10, the breast a kind of forget they’ve just supplied and then pump again for 20. My infant feeding lady recommended this to boost milk supply

Take a look at the flanges on your pumps - that honesty makes a huge difference. Also try out some different pumps if you can afford to. I invested in the Momcozy M5s and they don't work on me no matter how hard I try. I had to switch to the Mandela manual pump and can get double the milk in 10 minutes compared to what I would get from 30 mins with the Momcozy

See a lactation consultant. Call the hospital/obgyn you were seeing for information. Make sure you are eating well. Measure your nipple and swap the plastic flange to a silicone flange. And use a little coconut oil on the nipple for lubrication. I used the LacTeck brand, pumping was painful until I swapped to silicone. Make sure you’re using a good traditional/hospital grade pump. Not those wearable pumps. If you’re willing to let baby feed directly. Theirs suggestions that the baby’s saliva stimulates the breast. My bff and i both noticed that when we swapped to exclusive pumping our milk started dropping. (This is our own experience tho). If you are willing to feed baby directly on breast consider using a supplemental nursing tube system when you are toping off. Lastly, read read read. Learn about the difference in suckling speed, rhythm, intensity etc. They each signal different things to the breast. I highly recommend La Leche League. They have plenty of resources to read.

As for food. Eat well and diverse. Take your vitamins! I had a protein shake daily. I also drank fennel & fenugreek tea (it’s delicious). Oatmeal was also a go to meal when I was hungry.
