PMDD

Does anyone else get crazy while PMSing? I always think something is very wrong with me and then my period shows up. It’s like this every time and yet I’m still confused every time. I’m on low dose Prozac and in therapy but I think I need a higher dose 😩 I just hate the insomnia it gives me. I had to explain to my kids and husband that it’s not them it’s just me and it’s embarrassing to say the least. Any tips on how to deal with this?

A higher dose of Prozac might help but it is only masking a symptom. I would look into how you can naturally balance your hormones with diet and supplements. A functional medicine dr would be able to help, but you can also do your own research in the meantime.

I had very bad PMDD before children and the only thing that helped was supplementing DIM.

Yes I developed PMDD after having my little one, I went on sertraline and it totally cured it!

I second sertraline. Made such a difference. I'm on 50mg. Obviously, speak to your doc, but you should definitely speak up if it's not currently working for you. https://www.health.qld.gov.au/newsroom/features/breaking-the-cycle-a-guide-to-understanding-and-managing-premenstrual-dysphoric-disorder-pmdd

@Olivia @Laura 🍉🇵🇸✊🏻How long have you ladies been on it and have you noticed any unpleasant side effects on it like weight gain, insomnia etc?

@incognito no side effects for me! I’ve been on it 7 months x

I was on sertraline(zoloft) for 12 years. I don't recommend starting it unless it is for temporary symptom relief while you still work on finding the root cause. It is a b*tch to get off of after long term use. No ssri is curing anything. It is just masking the symptoms while the root cause goes unchecked. The most notable side effect I noticed from zoloft was it totally erased my libido. It also made me feel numb. I honestly feel like zoloft stole a good portion of my youth. If I were to go back, I would have gone to a functional medicine Dr to fix my gut and hormonal imbalances, but I didn't know anything about that stuff at the time. I seriously caution anyone considering antidepressant drugs. It will seem harmless at first but after a while it takes its toll and then you are dependent. I took 50 MG for several years, then got off it, and the withdrawal was so bad I went back and worked up to 100mg. I have been off of it for almost a year and it is gradually getting better!

Hey, OP, I've been on it just over a year, and it's working really well for me. Literally saved my life. I was having suicidal ideation and episodes of rage. I was in a really awful place, and everyone was suffering. The best thing I did was get on the medication. That's what works best for me.. If you're not sure about medication, you can try some lifestyle changes and psychotherapy first
