Honestly i was scared about all of the above too but the spinal felt like a prick only. I did have a few mild reactions to spinal, i was itchy and was shivering but nothing major. I was scared of the Catheter coming out the most but trust me i didn’t feel a thing. It was a matter of a few seconds only and that too wasn’t painful. Hope this helps :) all the best!

I was scared of the spinal and the part where they cut, knowing that’s what they were doing even though I wouldn’t be able to feel it My experience was - Lovely anaesthetist met us beforehand and explained some stuff, we built a lovely rapport with him which eased any nerves. The theatre was light and airy and cheery with staff that all introduced themselves and told us what their jobs were The spinal was pain free as they inject a local anaesthetic first which was a small sharp scratch, I just held my other half’s hand and stayed still but it was honestly fine The bit where they cut I couldn’t see and also just kept thinking of my baby, I couldn’t feel any tugging or pressure then within minutes I heard my baby cry and any fears or anxiety melted away it was the best feeling ever. All the scary stuff past this point did NOT MATTER you’re on a cloud! I was sick coming back from theatre but they give you some more antisickness if you need it Catheter you can’t feel and don’t care!

I watched an info video on the whole procedure beforehand and it helped get me mentally prepared. I could also choose music in there so opted for calm yoga music You’ll be absolutely fine ❤️

Spinal was my biggest fear, I was terrified! But one of those where the thought of it is so much worse than the real thing. I just felt the cold spray then a small sharp scratch for the local and then just pressure for the actual spinal. I wish I hadn’t spent so much time now worrying now. It worked pretty much instantly, my bum and legs started feeling warm and tingly and by the time I was lying down I couldn’t feel anything - it does feel strange but you get used to it quickly and just start focusing on waiting for your baby! I did have a bit of nausea during the section but the anaesthetist said at the beginning to just tell her if I felt anything at all, pain, dizzy, sick. So as soon as I started feeling sick I let her know and she immediately gave me medications to stop it and they worked straight away. Just make sure to communicate how your feeling Catheter coming out is super quick and easy. It feels a bit strange not painful and takes seconds Hope everything goes well x

You’ll be fine! In a nutshell: they numb you before the spinal so you only feel a quick scratch for that then the spinal is over before you know it! They can give you anti sickness mine was standard practice to just give it anyway. And the catheter you barely even feel come out! Just a bit of a weird feeling but deffo no pain!! X

I was so worried this time as my first was an emergency and i was so out of it this time was elective the spinal was fine felt a little nip if that they spray your back to numb it im not going to lie towards the end i felt really sick like i could be sick they gave me medicine for it put cold compress on me and one nurse was fanning me lol it finally passed and i felt better when i sat up didnt feel the cathetar go in. Or out

I was soo worried about my elected section I sat on the table crying my eyes out at the thought of the spinal but it was honestly fine! The most painful part for me was the cannula in my hand 🥹 I did feel quite nauseous when I was led down but I told the anaesthetist and she must’ve given me something to help because it subsided! One thing I will say is I was shaking uncontrollably but apparently that’s quite normal too 🤣 after my c section I’m sure they took my catheter out pretty quickly like maybe 6 hours or something? As they want you to do a wee once you’re able to get up but I didn’t feel the catheter go in or come out.. all in all I had a super positive elected c section 🫶🏽 my inbox is always open!

I was terrified of the spinal and catheter. Spinal was fine, absolutely no pain and didn’t feel a thing the whole surgery. I didn’t have any sickness, itching or shivering so it differs from person to person. I was most scared about the catheter but honestly taking it out there was no pain at all. It was annoying more than anything as I couldn’t move about to get comfy but no pain. Taking it out just felt like there was an air bubble, I was also scared about seeing after but again no pain and was fine.

I just had an elective csection 4 days ago and had the exact same worries as you. Spinal - first of all they will put the cannula in your hand, just don't look and it's absolutely fine. They numb the area first so you don't feel much. Then for the spinal they talk you through the whole thing. You'll be asked to slouch forward and you might feel a bit of pressure but again they numb the area before. Absolutely no pain! Then they will get you lying down, you can still move at this point and slowly you'll begin to feel your bottom half become fuzzy and heavy at kicks in. I really didn't mind that part at all! They also do so many checks to make sure it's worked with a cold spray and tapping you in various places. Feeling sick- i have emetophobia so this was a huge anxiety for me. I basically told every single person before the surgery but mention it to the midwife and the anaesthetists and they can pre-emptively give you anti sickness. They gave me two types and I didn't feel sick during or after the surgery.

Feeling sick- the anesthetists are monitoring your vitals constantly so they can manage your drugs throughout the surgery and avoid you feeling sick. You can also sip water or sugar free energy drinks up to one hour before - fasting made me feel quite sick as I didn't eat for 12 hours before. Catheter- absolutely fine, just feels like a bit of pressure coming out but doesn't hurt! For me, the weirdest part was shaking during the surgery which I think was a mix of anxiety and the drugs but they will keep you calm and it's so worth it to meet your baby!! Overall I found the surgery a positive experience and definitely the right choice for my birth - Good luck 💗

Thanks ladies, feeling positive xxxx

I'm terrified of needles and had 2 sections so 2 spinals, I can honestly say the 2nd time I just sat there and let them at it, it's not that scary. I didn't feel sick on either section and I only felt a light pressure when the catheter came out. There will be nurses in the theatre who will keep you occupied while theyre putting the spinal in so you'll be distracted. I'll keep my fear to myself cause I don't want you to unlock another one 😂😅

I didn’t feel it either time when they removed the catheter !

I was petrified of the spinal block, literally the main bit I was dreading and the local anaesthetic beforehand literally means you can’t feel it just do yourself a favour and talk to your birthing partner/ one of the surgeons and don’t watch what they’re doing! Feeling of being sick - I was sick during my C-section (from anxiety) and before I couldn’t even tell them I felt sick they were there with bowls and injecting me with anti-sickness, from feeling sick to feeling better about one minute had passed, they act super quick! Catheter coming out, the only experience I can compare it to, (which is gonna sound really bizarre), is like when you pull a hair from your head out your bum in the shower 😂absolutely no pain at all, and a bit of a relief! I can honestly with confidence say enjoy every minute of your C-section. It was the best experience of my life x
