Epidural girls - what hurts more?

Was in hospital today having an iron transfusion. 4th pregnancy and 3 epidurals. And I was talking to the nurse about how I think the cannula hurts more to put in than an epidural, she agreed. So guess I wanted to see what others thought! Who agrees, what u think?

I didn’t feel my epidural. The cannula site hurt for days even after it was gone!

Yeah same here, I'd take epidural any day over a cannula 🤣 bruises like a peach and sore for AGES xx

Cannula for sure, had one near my thumb and it hurt for the whole 24+ hours it was in. Still have a scar now, 3m later!

I had a spinal so a bit different but I'd describe the spinal like a bee sting and the canula like someone branding my hand with a hot poker and this was with numbing cream. The whole time it was in it hurt, I screamed with pain when ever they touched it and I did unmedicated labour till 10 minutes into the drip where I went ah why not have gas and air

Cannula was really painful with my first because they couldn't get it in so my both arms were bruised for weeks afterwards.

Oh gosh the cannula was put in incorrectly and was leaking during my c section and had to be taken out. I was so out of it and I was like, I think my arm is starting to looked deformed there 🤣 and the anesthesiologist said oh no… that’s not in right!

Omg girls I'm so glad you girls think so - had a student nurse who failed 3 times today, my hands are so sore, she suggested doing it side of wrist for the 4th time I stopped her and said hell no i want someone qualified now - your really hurting me, it's bad enough with a qualified doctor but jeeze Louise 🫣😳🤣

@Catherine I had a student midwife doing mine and she was really struggling. I looked like I had been beaten up.

At 10cm dilated a spinal was the best pain in the world. My epidural at 4cm was also incredible (shame it wore off)… people that are scared of the needles clearly can cope much better with contractions than I can! Wasn’t even a question of worrying about pain of the needle for me

Tbh by the time I was having my epidural I was having intense contractions so my perspective of pain was probably altered! Dont recall that hurting… They struggled with my cannula so that did hurt and bruised me really badly

I didn’t feel my epidural being inserted. I had a spinal block too just in case I need a c section

Do you have to have a cannula?

@Kit I did today yeah 🤦🏼‍♀️ xx

My epidural was a dream, I was in so much pain with contractions I didn’t care lol xx

Im scared of needles so i had all my four births without epidural and cannula:)

Never had epidural but had a cannula with a previous surgery and I feel so validated reading all the painful stories! My cannula was the worst experience ever, so painful that I couldn’t even sleep and nurses and family treated me like I was exaggerating the pain 😒 nice to read I wasn’t!

@Veronica Vidal lol its not nice at all 'they bloody hurt so much lol xx

The cannula, I feel they went to the pit of hell and said what else can we throw at women Cus labour pains is not enough 🤦🏿‍♀️
