Like said above, you need to be at least 1cm dilated to get it and your body already has to kinda be "ready" for it to actually work. I feel like it's 50/50 if it works or not. From what I read and what my OB told me, if you don't go into labor within 48 hours, it didn't work. When I had it done, it personally didn't hurt anymore than a cervical exam. I was cramping for hours after I had it done and that hurt way worse. I had it done 3/22 and I went into labor 3/24 right at that 48 hour marker lol
I was about 1cm dilated when I had my sweep done with my daughter, the nurse said she was basically tickling my babies head, experienced cramping on the bus home, I had mild contractions for the whole evening I managed to get a little bit of sleep till around 4:30am and I breathed through contractions for about 2 hours before my partner woke up lol went to hospital I think around 7am and gave birth at 8:41am xx
Go in relaxed. I got my first one done and was not relaxed scared as anything and it didn’t work, I went back a few days later and was relaxed, allowed the midwife to go further and I had my little one 18 hours later. I wouldn’t say it hurt though just uncomfortable and bizzare knowing the midwife can touch your unborn baby head but relax and baby should be here very good. Good luck x x
I got two. One at 38 1/2 weeks and one at 39 1/2 weeks and I went into labor on my due date. I wouldn’t change it.
A couple things to note: it will not be successful if your cervix is hard. It needs to be soft and ripe. you also have to be somewhat dilated. It’s a great little push if your body is ready to deliver. It worked great for me- had a sweep around 9 AM Friday and he came at 6 AM the following morning. It was pretty uncomfortable and slightly painful with some cramping afterwards but honestly wasn’t as bad as I was expecting
