University

Has anyone gone to uni instead of going to full time work? How does it work with regards to childcare? Will they help with costs of childcare? I really want to go to university but can’t see how I’d financially afford it

When I was in college as a mature student I got help with the costs of childcare so might do. Have you looked into open uni? It’s online uni and you can do it in your own time and over however many years you pick. I think UC pay up to 85% of your childcare costs too if you’re on UC, I’m not sure though so you’ll have to ask x

@Anna id want to do open university I think! But not sure I would get help off UC due to my partners wage. Did you work alongside going to college?

Yeah! So I got a childcare grant from student finance plus highest level maintenance loan, which was like an income on its own. The childcare grant covered 80% of the childcare and I had to pay 20%. It all depends on household finances, so whether you have a partner, or live with parents etc xx

I’m currently at uni studying and I’m in my first year of study with a 5 year old, you can apply for a child care grant and they will help fund your childcare costs and you can also get a parental part of the bursaries which supports the child while you are studying you get this along souse the maintenance loan you would get yourself if you need more info message me and I’ll help I’m about to apply for year two so I’ll be able to get all the info for you x
