When they book it in will depend on your trust as they all follow different processes. My C-section was booked in a 32 weeks but I know that's not the norm in a lot of areas and can be booked in much later. It is very unlikely they will book it in at 38 weeks and, unless there was a medical reason to do sooner, planned C-sections are booked in for the 39th week of pregnancy. I am 8 weeks post C-section with my second baby (vaginal birth with my first) and it was a very positive experience for me.
I had to be called in to be induced at 38 weeks for pre-eclampsia. I had 5 failed inductions and then decided to elect for a c-section which was something I previously never wanted to have. The team was absolutely amazing with me. I explained I was nervous and they were very calm at telling me what exactly would happen. The team were all made aware of my allergies etc… when it came to the epidural I had a wonderful lady who stood in front of me the whole time keeping me calm. The whole experience was so much better than I anticipated. Recovery is difficult but I did have an allergic reaction during my recovery. Just remember to take it steady and agree to all the pain relief you can get
I am having a planned c section. I signed my paperwork Monday (this is early to do this but I was under prem prevention and they did it) this is my second and they asked why I wanted one and I said I refused to be induced. They said c sections are booked from the 39th week. But they did ask me what I wanted to do if I went into labour before then, and personally I would try for a VBAC if everything is going ok but if things are slow then straight to the c section. But you could say you want to go straight to c section. This being said, I had an emergency c section with my first after a very long labour and it was still quite a relaxed experience. I think the word emergency seems like it’s a mad rush, but a lot of the time it’s still quite calm and lots of paperwork before they do it. The honest midwife does courses on natural birth, inductions and c sections so that might be useful for you to get all the info on birth options and make a decision.
Thanks girls!! This group is so helpful so glad I joined! ❤️
Best decision I made... recovery was smooth and it was so stress-free. They booked it in for 39 weeks, although they said if I went into early labour, just come in early and they would do it. Honestly cannot recommend it enough. They even had Bluetooth speakers in the theatre so we could put on a Spotify playlist.
Have a chat with different people about different options, it’s a really extreme measure to take unless you’re high risk. If you’re low risk and are informed then it’s extremely unlikely you’ll end up having shot surgery to birth your baby (coming from a mum planning her third home birth, first born was over 10lb) x
I wanted a planned section this time round after being induced the last 2 times and complications in last labour meant I almost had an emergency c but my daughter had other ideas (thankfully) but seen consultant and they’ve said they are refusing to do it. Absolutely heartbroken.
@Rachel oh my god! Why are they refusing? Is it risky to have a section after 2 natural births? That seems unfair so sorry lovely :( xxx
So I planned to have a section but changed my mind last minute so it was already booked. The date was agreed at 37 weeks and they still offered it me when I was in labour. I had booked it as baby was measuring big and I was worried about complications but my midwife showed me the birthing centre and I basically thought I'd have a go 🤣 The lovely midwife on the night just said would you like a section or still happy to see how it goes ❤️ It's 100% your choice too so please don't let anyone tell you otherwise. I had a few opinionated midwives and doctors tell me I had to have one or the other x
