Unhinged?

Hear me out before reading the question, my baby is in the 98th percentile and I want a vbac so I am not restricted from carrying my 14 months old once I deliver. If I don’t naturally go into Labor by 38weeks and 6 days, I am getting a planned c-section. I want to increase my chances of vbac! Question: Would breastfeeding my 14months old at 38 weeks help my body go into labour naturally? 😅

If it’s something you’re set on then you could try all the ‘old wives tales’ (raspberry leaf tea ETC) that being said the maternity team at your hospital are probably looking to go down the safest route for you and your baba so just be mindful of that too ❤️

Technically it could. But you would be giving your toddler colostrum. Has your doctor told you anything about your cervix ripening or you dilating yet?

Breastfeeding can help trigger labor for some women because it releases oxytocin, the hormone that helps with contractions. However, there’s no guarantee it will work, especially if your body isn’t quite ready for labor yet. That being said, it’s definitely worth trying if you’re already nursing, as it can help stimulate the uterus. Just keep in mind, your baby’s size and your body’s readiness play a big role too!

I am 33 weeks, so we just discussed my options. She said we could go the induction route again but because of my c section less than 2 years ago, she listed a bunch of side effects with possibilities of my scar dissolving with the gel etc and last time I got an induction to increase my chances of vaginal birth put I ended in an emergency c section because my body could not handle it.

I don’t know what to do 😭 I feel so much mom guilt for my first born, the thought of not being able to carry him and easily play with him is eating me alive. I feel like I owe it to him to give vbac a go.

@Abby my baby is big, hence why the situation I am in. When she pulled my first out, she said his shoulders would have been stuck and I was only 37 weeks! He wighed 4kg 😅 This one is bigger. I did read a lot of women were able to give birth to big babies but at the same time I am very petite so mehhhh Undecided 😩

I know you want a vbac and I don't want to offend you by saying this but if you had to go with a c section last time and this baby is bigger the chances you will need another c section are pretty high. Also, if you go into labor then end up with an emergency c section after laboring a while, the recovery is going to be worse. My son was also a big boy, he was 97th percentile in weight and his head was in the "greater than 99th percentile". At 36 weeks he was measuring 8lbs 8oz, his head was measuring 8 weeks ahead. He was 10lbs at birth. I'm now pregnant with twins, due a month after he turns two, I opted for a c section before I even knew that I'm having twins because between his size(assuming any baby I have will be big) and the fact that I had a c section about two years ago, there are more risks than I'm willing to take personally.

I get being upset about not being able to pick up your first born, but that doesn't mean you can't hold him and play with him, you just have to have him climb on your lap or have someone pick him up for you. That's what I'm planning on doing because my son is now over 30lbs 😬

@Cheyann you have a very good point! Which is why we already booked in the c section. It’s just that mom guilt that keeps drawing me back and making me think a lot.

@Cheyann I think it’s the fact that he runs to me and always wants me to pick him up at the moment that’s breaking my heart that I won’t be able to do it. My doctor said anyway that at 36 weeks, we’ll see his size and make a final decision then and I do trust her fully your comment actually puts more things into perspective for me 🥰
