Congested baby at night

Has anybody got a congested baby but just at night? It's keeping us all up, including himself bless him. Really noisy and he's really fidgeting because of it. He has been told he might have acid reflux so wondering whether it's linked to this.

Yes especially after a bottle, have you tried holding them up for 30 minutes after and using a saline spray? X

Yes we have. It can be a sign of silent reflux which we are pretty sure our little one is suffering with. We are yet to find a solution. X

I could've written this. Anytime we lay our baby down at night she is thrashing around, snorting and sounds really conjested. We have raised the moses basket, got humidifier, saline spray, snot sucker but nothing really helps. She sleeps like a dream if she is upright on our chest but as soon as you put her down. Most babies get congestion but pretty sure ours also has reflux due to her spitting up milk aswell. No help I'm afraid just solidarity in these sleepless nights.

@Laura what humidifier do you use please? X

Our baby has a condition called laryngomalacia which makes her noisey breathing at night but acid reflux apparently goes hand in hand with that condition so the noise will never completely go but we have just got the acid reflux is under control - touch wood! We tried anti reflux milk which worked amazingly but then our baby got really bad constipation and wind so… we now only use it for two of the night feeds which seems to help and no side effects so far. You can also buy the cow and gate thickener which other mums say works well as you can control how much you put in to the milk. The saline spray really helped clear out the nose. We never found the humidifier worked for us tbh. Also the biggest thing that we found really helped was side bottle feeding / she took in less air and therefore less symptoms. You have to prop your legs up and have her on a pillow - the HV showed us how to do it.

@Gemma hey! Yes always have him up for an hour afterwards as he's nearly always sick. I've been using saline drops. I wonder if the spray would be any different. @Hayley I hope all goes well! It's tough isn't it. @Laura sorry you're in the same boat. I thought he was getting a cold but nothing has come of it and he's had it for weeks now. @Rachel I've never heard of laryngonalcia. I hope your little one is ok. What medication was your little one given? I shall look into side bottle feeding? Thank you xc

There isn’t any medication for it but she will grow out of it. Sorting out the reflux and wind has helped massively. Yes definitely give side feeding a try! It was a game changer for us. We also changed formulas several times to find the one that works - for us it’s Hipp organic during the day and the Aptamil anti reflux at night. We changed bottles several times too - settling on Dr Browns anti colic in the end!
