Need Advice

My doctor currently has me on lexapro (it’s an antidepressant medication) after my first child passed. I wanted to know how did any of my other mommas feel if they were on any antidepressants?

I changed from lexapro to Zoloft from pregnancy to postpartum. anti depressants aren’t supposed to immediately work it takes time.. it also just isn’t the medication, your day to day life is a huge factor into any type of depression weather it is perinatal or postpartum. during pregnancy we upped my lexapro dosage bc during pregnancy you aren’t getting the full effect on the medication bc of hormones & just the fact you’re carrying a whole human.

First just let me say I’m so sorry to hear about your loss. I’m currently on 50 mg of Zoloft and have been since I was about 3 months pregnant, but I’m not really feeling like it’s doing much nowadays. I can’t go on anything higher though because I’m still breastfeeding.

Hi mama. I'm so sorry for your loss. I've been on 20mg of Lexapro for years....pre pregnancy, during and post pregnancy. It took a while to find the right dose and even then it took about 3 months for my hormones to regulate and for me to start truly seeing the effects of it! Antidepressants don't work overnight, unfortunately. You definitely have to give them time to build up to an appropriate level in your system. I hope you are also seeing a therapist and not just on medication? Meds can only do so much and that kind of trauma deserves to be talked about. Sending you all the love 💕

@Hokulani Yeah i just started last week. But i have been having lost of appetite and just a lot of energy. Plus someone of the times i just feel numb to situation happening around me.

@Brittany Did it have any effects on your baby? I been hearing ppl say they end up giving birth to a lexapro baby or a quiet baby. Like the baby doesn’t cry or anything when giving birth. Is that true?

@MK Thank you! I appreciate the love! I am seeing a therapist and my doctor recommended it to my social worker that i should start it cause my postpartum is really bad. Plus i haven’t been sleeping or having much motivation at all. I’m on now 10mg and it has been working. I’m just not sure if the side effects are all the same with everyone. Plus my therapist wants me to stay on it when i do get pregnant so that i won’t have symptoms of anxiety or depression. I’m just worried about what will happen to my child if i stay on it.

@MK Hi mama, it's possible to take these kind of medications during pregnancy? I'm currently 3 months pregnant as well and kinda was looking into something that would help as I'm in the same boat as this mama who has made this post. i'm genuinely curious

@Natalie yes! Lexapro is safe for use during pregnancy. Your OB/midwife can give you more detailed information but there are multiple antianxiety/antidepressants that are safe for both pregnancy and breastfeeding

@Nay I'm glad you're getting the support you deserve! Side effects can be different person to person because we all metabolize medications differently.
