Hey lovely I think we need some background as I’m a little confused xx
What was his reasoning?
Yeah we need some background. I don’t trust every pediatrician.. some of them lack up to date information, education and general empathy. I always take what they say with a grain of salt!! From someone who literally faced every single obstacle and problem work breastfeeding, I’m still going strong at 7 months pp
Why? Pediatricians for the most part aren’t lactation consultants so they’re not true experts in breastfeeding.
Could you get a 2nd opinion? Maybe from someone with more knowledge on breastfeeding.
Background or not. This is insane advice. Why bag it if you can’t put baby directly on the breast? Why would you pump which is MORE work, not less. I’m sorry but that’s insane advice. Follow your heart. Your tears tell you everything Moma.
Why
Keep breastfeeding. Your baby will adjust. You got this!
Have you talked to a lactation consultant? Why did your pediatrician tell you to do this,
Talk to a lactation consultant! I discovered one month in that my baby had a terrible latch and wasn't transferring very much milk. It was recommended that I breastfeed and then pump, and then give a bottle (triple feed). They wanted me to pump so I'd transfer more milk and increase my milk supply. This was exhausting but worked and my supply went up! After a tongue tie release we were able to primarily breastfeed.
Is the baby able to latch okay? I’m sure there’s a good reason the dr recommended this
??? Definitely this doesn’t make sense?? Most good pediatricians will encourage to continue breastfeeding as long as you can unless there are some underlying health issues.
hi all!! the amount of responses to this post is crazy lol thank you guys! idk why i assume everyone sees my previous posts and things like that or knows what’s going on i definitely needed more context to this post. so i am type 1 diabetic and i have posted about this ongoing issue in the type 1 diabetic moms group previously. essentially after 3 (almost 4) weeks of breastfeeding the pediatrician has concluded that i’m producing enough milk volume wise but not substance wise. like whatever my diabetes is doing isn’t working with breastfeeding and my milk is practically like water so my baby is malnourished drinking my milk ☹️ (he concluded this after i tried triple feeding, then triple feeding and offering formula to top her off, etc) we go back again next wednesday after this week of giving only formula and at that appointment im going to ask if i can fortify (add formula to breast milk instead of water) but just for this week they want to see if she gains weight doing formula.
so the question of “has this happened to anyone else” was more just to the part of has anyone been told by their pediatrician to stop breastfeeding as i know that my situation is extremely unique (even the women in the type 1 moms group didnt seem to have an issue) 🤷♀️ i was devastated though so i was more just looking for support and encouragement and seeing if anyone had been told something like this too

Oh no sorry to hear that! just always remember fed is best, don’t be hard on yourself, u tried your best but baby needs all the nourishment so she can continue to thrive, best of luck❤️
@Kiki thank you 🤍
@Annie wishing you and baby the best💛
I’m so sorry! Don’t be defeated! You are doing what’s best for babe!
@Dria thank you 🙏
@Jadie thank you 🤍
Yes, happened to me due to son’s bowel condition. At the beginning it was really hurtful and i felt betrayed but to be hones now, I see that my son was better off on the prescribed formula and it was a good decision. It does hurt though so I’m sorry you have to go through it
I haven’t been in your position but you clearly have tried your absolute hardest to feed your baby that way and everything else is out of your control !! You clearly are a very good mummy so don’t beat yourself up over this as your baby will thrive xx
@Ana ya like my heart sank when they told me so i’m sure it was the same way for you 💔
@Becky ya girl i think that’s why it hurts so bad because i have been trying so hard and also with my son he wouldn’t latch so i never breastfed him and i definitely feel some type of way about that too so it’s like an extra layer of defeat. you’re right though like i will never not have diabetes so nothing is gonna change and it’s out of my control. thank you for ur kind words 🤍
So sorry and makes way more sense with this context. I would still reach out to a lactation consultant and pediatric nutritionist if you feel strongly about breastfeeding. I wonder if they could test your foremilk and hindmilk. I hope you’re also able to connect with someone who has gone through a similar experience
@Anne thank you! i’m not really sure what a lactation consultant would do because it’s not that I’m not making milk or that my daughter doesn’t have a good latch, etc. but a pediatric nutritionist would definitely not be a bad idea and I’m seeing my endocrinologist on the 23rd so hopefully she can help me out a little bit too 🤍
Why he said that ? Weird never heard of this
@Louma i’m gonna copy my message from above^^ idk why i assume everyone sees my previous posts and things like that or knows what’s going on i definitely needed more context to this post. so i am type 1 diabetic and i have posted about this ongoing issue in the type 1 diabetic moms group previously. essentially after 3 (almost 4) weeks of breastfeeding the pediatrician has concluded that i’m producing enough milk volume wise but not substance wise. like whatever my diabetes is doing isn’t working with breastfeeding and my milk is practically like water so my baby is malnourished drinking my milk ☹️ (he concluded this after i tried triple feeding, then triple feeding and offering formula to top her off, etc) we go back again next wednesday after this week of giving only formula and at that appointment im going to ask if i can fortify (add formula to breast milk instead of water) but just for this week they want to

@Annie have you ever met with a lactation consultant? mine offer invaluable support and has told me so helps moms with diabetes. we often discussed nutrition both for me to help with milk and for baby … like when to nurse for fattiest milk, so on. your situation is much different than mine as i do not have diabetes but im happy to hear you have a support network to lean on 🫶🏽
@Anne no i only ever had lactation consultants in the hospital and i made a post about them and the ladies on that post were discrediting lactation consultants so much i was like oh… lol but that’s good to know that u feel differently and thank you! after we see the pediatrician again this week ill seek out a lactation consultant and just see if they can provide any advice
Maybe I wasn’t following your post but I think we need some background.
