Where you given blood thinning injections to take at home after your c-section?

Just intrigued really, I was given injections to do at home for 6 weeks post birth, not entirely sure why and because I didn’t know any different at the time I didn’t ask.

Yeah they sent me home with 38 to do 😐 it’s because your not moving around as much and your increased to blood clots after the surgery! They aren’t nice but important

I was given them for 10 days but didn’t have a c section. Not really sure why either as they weren’t very clear so I didn’t end up taking them all

Yes they’re blood thinners. They do a risk assessment to see how likely it is you will develop a deep vein thrombosis (blood clot) that could travel round your body and make you very unwell. If you are a higher chance they prescribe you blood thinners xx

I was given 10 days. Didn’t have a c section but did lose a lot of blood and they thought I might have an infection

6 weeks. I had a section and I think I’ve ended up with the 6 weeks because I’m a bigger girl so at “higher risk” 🤷🏼‍♀️x

10 days worth after my elective section, 6 weeks worth after my emergency section (due to higher blood loss and a blood transfusion)

I was given blood thinners for 6 weeks after an emergency c section, I completed 2 weeks and then decided to have a conversation with a midwife to see if 6 weeks was really necessary as the standard looked to be 10 days and I was able to move around easily. I’m 36 so I think it was my age that was the reason for 6 weeks however they decided that I could stop the injections, so it might be worth speaking to your midwife as they are not the nicest injections. Hope this helps

Yea I was sent home with 8 weeks worth 🙈

I was first 10 days after c-section but the messed up my discharge papers and because I had preeclampsia and high blood pressure wouldn’t go down and my leg and foot still being swollen after I ended up with 6 weeks

I had 6 weeks worth, but I was In hospital for a week and was really poorly during my section x

I luckily only had 10 days but I was told it varies depending on risk factors, they do like a scoring system BMI, previous births and blood loss, age etc etc

You’re given 6 weeks if they mark you as high risk whilst in hospital

I had a c section and was given them to take for 6 weeks also. I'm deemed higher risk x

Yes, 7 days worth.

I had c-s and was given 10 days worth, not asked then why as I thought it would be a standard one. But sympathise with those who got them for longer. Im Not fan of needless all, so dont think I will be able to cope with 6 weeks worth of injections
