Thoughts on this 👇

I’m being recommended to have an induction at 39 weeks due to gestational hypertension. They are even talking about doing it sooner (I’m 38 weeks today - medication is keeping it below 140/90 but only just) I asked what all my options were. The other option was to wait and see but have daily monitoring. I don’t want a c-section BUT they said that gestational hypertension isn’t a medical enough reason to have an elective c-section and if I wanted one, I’d have to make a maternal request. What are your thoughts on the c-section bit? I thought it was interesting advice!

I had an elective c section last Friday and one of the reasons I chose to do it was because of hypertension I developed at 37 weeks.

(second reason = a scan showed I had more than usual amounts of amniotic fluid)

Interesting!!

Hope it all went well 🥰

It's not medical enough reason for c section but it is for induction? 🤔 In similar position but not on any medication, it hasn't been mentioned at all. Midwives seem to think doctors are overreacting about induction. 😬 Hard to know what is right to do for baby. Did they give you any risks of not having induction?

I have hypertension. Controlled by labetelol but like you only just. I have had my induction booked for day before due date. I’d push back induction if you don’t feel comfortable and there are not other risk factors. Do what feels right for you x

I also have mild poly (excess amniotic fluid) but not been offered c section x

@Ruth agreed. Risks of gestational hypertension generally- developing pre-eclampsia and placental abruption. Midwives don’t see why we have to medicalise things if meds are controlling the blood pressure and drs pushing for induction. Very mixed messages. Drs say there’s no real benefit to baby staying in my stomach as they are “fully cooked” but risks of them not inducing are as listed above.
