Midwife-Led Unit at Jessop Wing?

Hi everyone 👋 I'm currently in my second trimester and starting to think more seriously about birth options. I'm considering the midwife-led unit at Jessop Wing and would really appreciate hearing from anyone who’s had their baby there. What was your experience like? How are the rooms?

Had my baby April ‘23 at jessops, couldn’t fault the experience and the staff. Things didn’t go to plan but communication was great and I still felt quite in control of the situation.

Had my baby there in Dec 24 and it was the best experience I could've hoped for 😊 water birth, minimal pain relief and really supportive midwives, would definitely recommend it! The room was great, the Bluetooth speakers were really useful, pool was quickly filled and there was plenty of space for me to pace about in the meantime. The ensuite bathroom was really spacious too Xx

My midwife was Joanne she was absolutely lovely, I will never forgot her. I got rushed off to theatre and had three doctors telling me different things whilsht on gas and air and she held my hand and kept getting me to focus on her and she calmed me down from having a panic attack while giving birth.

@Anastasia! That sounds like such a beautiful experience 🥰 What happens after the birth ? Do you get to stay in a private room or do you move to the ward?

@Anais they'd said about me going up to the ward but I'd asked to go home- everything with the birth was straightforward and me and baby were doing well afterwards so I didn't see why I'd need to stay. They agreed and let me stay in the room for a few hours to get a shower and for baby to have a few checks before being discharged 😊 There was no pressure either way! I was admitted in labour at 6am and we left at about 5pm

I was planning a midwife led birth as well but ended up being induced so had to stay in the consultant led part of the Jessop wing. The staff there were brilliant, explained everything, very empathetic, chatty, supportive, respected my wishes. I ended up having a c-s and they did a great job and reassured me all the way on what will happen etc. The whole birth process was not what I wanted but overall Im happy with how it all went

I had such a traumatic birth at jessops honestly I left with over 30+ stitches due to them rushing to get my son out with no real emergency to do so. They gave me a cut whilst trying to push for the ventuse to be used after I was only in labour for 10hours. They didn’t really talk to me about any worries other than my son’s heart rate going slightly up and down but nothing too dramatic. I’m still having issues down there and I am 16months postpartum and may have to have reconstructive surgery due to the botch stitch job I was given. It has in all honesty traumatised me to the point of no longer wanting any more children. I wouldn’t recommend jessops to anyone to be completely honest. I’ve heard some people have great births there unfortunately I wasn’t one of them and know a few people with complete horror stories with them. I was supposed to be in the midwife led wing however she said that they dont really have all that many people that are actually able to stay there.
