@Jess yeah I’ve seen others say that, did you have big babies?
I've not got an overhang but my tummy isn't the same as it was! I had a natural birth
@Emma yeah I’d say it’s the same for me, I did have a c section but I don’t have a “overhang” just a different belly! It’s still weird getting used to though! X
Pregnancy and birth affect your body regardless of birth method. I don’t have an overhang and I had sections, my best friend had an overhang even before she had a baby. It’s all genetics and body types xx
I’ve had 2 vaginal births and have an overhang. Neither of my babies were particularly big!
@Sarah did your body respond the same with your second section or was there any differences? Xx
@Katrina I have seen quite a few mums say this, I’d always assumed it was c sections! Xx
No differences for me, same scar too. My second section I had a quicker recovery too weirdly but my stomach is recovering the same. I’m only 4m pp now so it’s still a bit like jelly and toning slowly but no overhang xx
@Sarah mine was an EMCS so I always wonder which I’d choose a second time round! What’s the age gap between yours? Xx
She was 2 years and 7 months when he was born so I conceived when she was about 20m. No issues with pregnancy and I was told I could have a VBAC if I wanted but I chose an elective. I healed really well between births which I think helped my core recovery xx
I think you body just changes with pregnancy. My shape is similar to pre pregnancy but more wobbly, and just feels a bit wider
Nope only between 7 to 8lbs
@Lisa yeah my body shape just shifted. My hips are wider and even though I got no overhang I seem to carry all my weight differently. I’m also though 4 years older than I was before I first got pregnant so it could be my age xx
I have an overhang, had a vaginal birthday, but i was overweight before I got pregnant and now I've lost quite a bit of weight.

I’d say body type and genetics help. Probably what your body was like pre pregnancy too. If you worked out during pregnancy maybe. I had a section and had no over hang. My belly was probably more toned and flatter after my section (talking like 1-2 years pp!) but I was working out throughout my pregnancy and after. I’m now pregnant again. Considering a section but worried I’ll get an overhang now 😣 haven’t been able to workout etc as much as my first due to having a toddler 😮💨😮💨 So we will see
I ended up with an overhang on my third baby. My body “bounced back” well after the first two but that third it just hasn’t gone back at all.
I haven’t read all the comments so forgive me if this has already been mentioned, but besides pregnancy/birth changing your body.. a C Section places extra factors into how your body recovers in my opinion / where someone who gave birth vaginally - their muscles skin etc, will retract as it does but as someone who’s had a section that area that has been cut through won’t retract the same.. that’s my opinion though x
Had a natural birth with my first and the overhang was unreal 😭 she is now 8 and it has never gone away, it looks like a really bad c section overhang. Currently pregnant with my second and will be getting an elective section this time, so it will be interesting to see if it's worse, better or just the same. I think genetics play a huge role in things like this though, no two people are the same
Some of the overhang after c sections is swelling or scar tissue. Being pregnant stretches your skin out tho so once the baby is out, your skin is a little looser and that’s probably what causes overhang
My sister had a Csec w twins (her belly was huge, her twins were 5”4lbs each) and she doesn’t have overhang her belly is flat although she does pick bather bottoms a lil higher waisted due to the scar itself. And she’s considered skinny (skinnier than me) I’ve had 3 vaginals no overhang but I did work my belly and body back to what it was pre 3 babies.
My first baby was natural, lost the tummy no problem! Then my second and third babies were both sections and I have an awful overhang, bigger after my third I hate it, I wouldn’t mind as much but I’m very skinny everywhere else so it looks odd!!
I have an overhang and had a vaginal birth, baby was 7'11
I think it completely depends how big your bump was and how good your body is at "bouncing back". My bump was small. I had an emergency c section and I don't have an overhang and never did. But I know my mum and nan bounced back it was only when my mums thyroid went nah I'm not working anymore bye bye while pregnant with my sister that she didn't.
I've had 2 vaginal births and have an overhang
