I had a really bad case of the flu when my little girl was 7 months. I spoke to a GP about taking meds. She said taking lemsip is OK after 6 months pp as your supply is fully developed by then. If you're not quite 6 months pp I'd speak to a pharmacist or if in the UK call 111 and ask for meds advice
Decongestants such as phenylephrine can (temporarily) reduce milk supply - this is much more likely the longer you've been breastfeeding, so if LO is only a few weeks old then chances are it probably won't affect your supply, whereas if they're a toddler there's a much higher chance. Either way, it should return to normal after you stop taking the decongestants. Any nasal sprays are safe to take and won't affect breastfeeding. Paracetamol and ibuprofen are also absolutely fine
I take Claritin , Zyrtec, Tylenol / Motrin , and cough drops
None unfortunately. A lot of decongestants will reduce your milk supply. Some dope gave me sudafed when breastfeeding (even tho I asked for breastfeeding safe options) and it dried me up within a day. Luckily I got it back pretty quick but ugh. Not worth it. I would use an obas oil pen or something
This is a great website that lists a lot of common medications and whether they are safe to use during pregnancy and breastfeeding: https://mothertobaby.org/fact-sheets/ I use it often. I know most OTC allergy medications such as Benadryl, Claritin, and Zyrtec are safe while breastfeeding as well as some nasal sprays. I take Claritin on occasion. Do NOT take pseudoephedrine as it will drop your milk supply a lot.
