Can preterm birth run in family?

I was just wondering if preterm birth can run in families because I myself was born 8 weeks early, my sister was 6 weeks early my mum was also born preterm and 2 of my nans other kids were born preterm my auntie also had her baby 6 weeks early. I don't know if it's a coincidence or can run in families but would love to know more I'm currently 32 weeks and would love to make full term but just wanted to know others opinions and experiences

I think it can do but it depends on the reason behind the pre term birth. I think if your mum had preeclampsia then you are more prone to develop it for example. But I had a 28 weeker, followed by a full term baby and neither myself or my husband were pre term

It does seem like it can run in the family but doesn’t always mean it will happen, they say that women who was born early is at a higher risk of also labouring early but as I said doesn’t mean it’s definitely going to happen

It can. Particularly if it’s hormone or cervical incompetency related as there can be genetic precursors for these
