Broken down episiotomy

Hi ladies. On my first night after birth, my episiotomy stitches came away and an infection started. Course, the doctors haven’t been able to restitch so it’s been a painful few days… I’m now 6 day post postpartum and wondering how long it took anyone else’s broken episiotomies to heal? Did you look…?

I had exactly the same, I’m now 3 weeks pp and no pain at all, I’d say the pain died down around week 2 and then the last 3/4 days I’ve been able to wee without a peri bottle and no pain at all walking. It is hell but hang in there it does get better!!

Definitely do not look. Lots of witchhazel and aloe gel on pad and in the freezer will help the healing process x

I am now 24 days PP. Had an infection so got 7 days of antibiotics before they could re stitch. Was restitched 19 days PP with a spinal. Still in a bit of pain. I think leaving it to heal on its own would take 6-8 weeks!

I got an infection on about day 3-4 and it got to the point where it felt like someone was holding a lighter to my bum cheek, triage gave me antibiotics and it got a bit better but they did a swab and turns out I wasn’t on the right antibiotics for the infection so make sure if you had a swab that they give you the right ones! Mine is so much better now and I’m on day 18, I made the mistake of looking about a week into the infection (don’t do that) the midwife said it looks worse to me then what it actually looks! It will heal, I have pretty much no pain now and getting better every day, hang on in there you’ve got this!xx

@Jess how did they restitch you? Why they keep telling me we can’t do that 😥 even though there’s no infection now

@Shaveen I had a spinal in theatre. Could’ve left it to heal naturally but I think it must’ve been bad enough for them to restitch 😅
