Breastfeeding

Hi ladies! I think I’m about ready to stop breastfeeding my 16month old. She still has her two milk bottles a day when I’m not with her, but when I am, she won’t take the bottle, and I feel so drained 😩 is there any tips anyone can give me 💕

Same here he is not interested in bottle or even solid food he will refuse to eat and wants just breast

If she misses a bottle in the daytime it's not the end of the world. When I stopped (15months) it was gradual. I started by keeping my son busy and distracted and out of the house and offering food and drinks instead. He usually wanted a feed when tired so I made sure he was in the car or buggy at that time to go to sleep and slowly cut the daytime bottle that way. My son refused a bottle for a while but I just kept offering when saying no more finished for breast. They can understand at this age. After a while he took it and then I was down to 6am feed only. And then he started not waking for it so I cut that one too. Every now and again he will ask and I just say it's finished. As long as they aren't sick or in the middle of teeth cutting its a good time to finish I think.

@Leonie she’s literally in the middle of teething, that could be the reason why she’s so attached to me right now and not her dad, she doesn’t want anyone. I’ll defo do what you’ve been doing and try it out, but maybe I should wait till after this tooth comes out, then mama bear is done 😂

I think so as my boy was the same if he was teething or had a cold forget about it. He never took a dummy, and would not have a bottle until 9 months and that was with me trying with my expressed milk in one. I thought it was going to be hell to get him off but actually it wasn't as bad as I thought.

I don’t know how I’m going to stop. Baby is 20 months old and has it when he wakes and when he goes to bed… he won’t take bottles when I’m around. He knows what he wants… It was much easier stopping earlier.. I stopped under 1 year for my first 2 and they switched to bottles fine. I never imagined it would be so hard to stop…. I’m hoping he will grow out of it himself soon x

If you do want to continue and it's easiest for you both then know that it's recommended until age 2 and is common until later in the other parts of the world. If you're fed up, try books (I heard about booby moon but haven't tried it) to explain that boobs are going to sleep. I slowed to 2 feeds at this age, just morning and bedtime, and gradually moved the bedtime feed earlier then dropped it through distraction. My son had a sleepover with my parents then so didn't get morning boob and gradually he could be distracted out of that one too.
