My daughter is 19 months I was exclusively breastfeeding the whole time no bottle at all and started noticed it was just comfort feeding so I just stopped I'm currently on day 3 and she's not having any other form of milk in a bottle or sippy cup instead I have been adding milk to her morning porridge as she would reject any form of milk I tried goat and cow and the ready made milks and powdered milks and nothing worked. It's day 3 of noting giving her breast milk and I've tried different things to offer her comfort instead of the milk like back rubs and hair strokes and that makes her fall asleep I hope this helps x
Since it’s recommended to drop bottles around this time anyway I’d just roll with that and try straw or open cups for milk!
It might be worth seeing if someone else can feed the baby breastmilk from a bottle while you’re in another room. Sometimes babies won’t take a bottle if mum is present.
I would just offer water in her bottle and a cuddle. Explain that boob has gone to bed, use a timer clock to show her when the sun is awake boob is awake
Following because my baby does the same from 8 months waking 6+ times for comfort feeds and won’t take a bottle or paci
@Tash yes I’ve tried that and she’s ok with it during the day. It’s just for the night because she wakes up sooo many times 🙃
@Naimah ah it’s the same situation for me- we tried all those things as well but didn’t work out! She gets so so upset when I try to do anything to settle her- she only wants milk :( idk how to cope
@GMF we are ok with this during the day- she drinks lots of water etc but it’s in the night I’m struggling with
@Amy yes I’m going to try this now but honestly, my husband can’t handle her crying ( she cries for like an hour + if I don’t give her milk) and will give up :(
@Charley i havnt tried talking to her, different soothing methods but she wont have any of it
@Nathalie it’s awful, isn’t it?! I really regret exclusively breastfeeding because of this :(
Does she eat well in the day?
@Mina not really - she’s not a good eater at all. I try and give her different things but she’ll have a mouth full or so and be done with it. She enjoys fruit pouches a lot though
Im in the same boat my son doesnt eat too well so ive started giving him shakes (date and banana, strawberry) , i try to fill him up as much as possible even if its just fruit and he walks around alot more. Ive noticed this made a difference he used to wake up every 1 -2 hrs now he only wakes for 3 feeds at night. Instead of focusing on the bottles at night try to focus on filling her up more and btw i even give my son the drinks in a glass with a spoon or his sippy cup. A sleep therapist said to focus on the day and the night will fix itself so im really hoping thats the case until he weans. Lets be friends! :D
Have you tried a sippy or open cup instead of a bottle? No need for her to start taking a bottle now if she’s never had one ☺️
