C section experiences (good & bad pls)

I’ve been researching elective c section but I keep reading about a few side effects & just wondered if you experienced any of these. Painful gas & difficulties passing wind / moving bowels Excessive itching of scar Vomiting during surgery and extreme shaking. Someone at work told me the shaking was so bad she chipped her tooth and felt like she was going to die during it. Did you experience any of these things? I have vaginal birth with my first. It didn’t go smoothly and needed help in the end. Considering c section this time.

I had a c-section the first time and I didn't personally experience any of these things. My scar healed wonderfully and I had no ideas. I do remember one person being sick for a little while after their c-section. I didn't get any kind of shakes, I was just very sore for a while which is to be expected after major surgery anyway 😊

I had emergency c section and was shaking and was sick. I've not experienced any other things you listed but they overdosed me on anti anxiety drugs and I was flat out for maybe 4hrs. And missed the golden hour. 2.5 yrs later I'm still bitter about it. I also got a major infection afterwards and no one believed me until it ruptured and wouldn't stop leaking . Luckily no sepsis. Still have the scar and the pouch but I'm fat so might be more related to that than just c section in itself

With my first csection - an emergency one, I suffered the shaking and the sickness. I was shaking badly but it was nothing that I found awful, just a reaction to the spinal meds. I felt sick but they give anti sickness meds. With my planned csection last week, I had no shaking but I was sick. I was given more anti sickness meds and the people in the room with me were amazing. X

First c section was an emergency- that was awful. I was sick, the shaking was so bad I couldn’t hold baby (but never thought I was dying) scar healed well but recovery was painful BUT second section was planned and 100% different! No sickness no shaking no pain held baby straight away. Recovery was also 100% easier. Up n showered within 24 hrs and walking about. Scar did itch but I’m over weight n got infected so that’s on me. I also have the pouch but I so don’t care lol

I ended up in theatre with my first, managed to avoid a c section but it wasn't so fun. Due to other things I had an elective c section for my second and it was fine. After I gave birth I did shake quite a lot which made me feel a bit weird for 10 mins or so but I was able to cuddle my baby ok. I had quite a lot of gas build up and pain in my shoulder for a couple of days. Much preferred that to my first experience.

I had my first by emergency C section and although I did shake a little towards the end, it wasn’t bad and went away quite quickly. I didn’t experience the other issues, the actual C section was quite nice and peaceful, I imagine an elective one would be even better. This time around I’d like to try a VBAC but if it doesn’t work out, I won’t be upset about having another c section, it wasn’t bad in my experience

My C Section was fine, you do get the shakes bad due to the anesthetic however I had no other issues and my recovery was really smooth sailing! I’m 90% sure of going for an elective this time round x

I’ve had 2 c sections, completely different experiences: Oct 22 - elective c section - calm, relaxed, cracked jokes with the Surgeons and they played my playlist during the section. The only thing I had was nausea but I wasn’t sick and recovery was absolutely fine. Mar 24- emergency c section after I went in for a scan and came out with a baby 😂 It was unexpected so my anxiety was high and I got the shakes during the surgery. (Felt like intense shivering and I felt anxious but not violent shaking) The shakes went away as soon as the surgery was over. Recovery was not the best second time around, as my body didn’t dissolve the stitches and was spitting sutures to the surface. Again, just the way the body decided to recover and can’t be controlled. So my scar only looks better after a year but it was clean and smooth soon after my first c section. Of course, every body is different but I hope you make the best decision for you and have a smooth birth 🥰

I had an emergency c section with my oct 22 baby and didn’t experience any of these . I did shake a little immediately after birth which I was reassured was due to the meds and everything and didn’t affect my ability to hold baby straight away . I guess if effects everyone differently each time and perhaps it’s just luck of the draw. I know it’s easy to say but hard to do but try not to worry and just keep yourself open to the best option for you both either way .

Thanks everyone. After hearing your experiences, I feel more informed on an elective section and pretty set on it now. I’m going to speak to my midwife about it next week. I do have my own health worries / reasons but it’s helped to hear the good and the bad so I can be aware of what may be to come 🙂☺️xx

I was booked for a planned and then went in to labor the night before! Ended up with an emergency c section! I had the feeling sick and shaking but they gave me anti sickness so went pretty quick, shaking went on till my boy was in my arms! Scared fully healed an i had alot of itching on it, still do now sometimes but nothing a bit of moisturiser won't sort. The first poop! For me was horrendous but I'd been given strong pain relief (codeine) so that defo didn't help! But once that one was done it was fine!
