Breastfeeding after wisdom teeth removal

Hey everyone! So basically I have an almost 8 month old baby who is breastfed and will not take a bottle. She will drink out of an open cup but does not understand straw or sippy cup yet. Next week I have to be sedated via IV to get 4 wisdom teeth removed. They said that I have to pump and dump for 24 hours after the sedation and I’m just worried. I know I can get my baby to drink breastmilk from an open cup and she eats solids too. But what about after will she just latch back on after the day of no breastfeeding? And she nurses to sleep and is generally very clingy. I have no idea what to do. Any advice would help or encouraging word or anyone who went thru similar experience

I had my supply drop and basically was pumping 6-7 times a day to get it back up and was using bottles for my baby during this. She is exclusively breast fed but took the bottle well. After about a week I went back to breastfeeding and it was like nothing changed, she latched very well and this was back when she was 3 ish months old. Don’t worry!

I've had to drop breastfeeding due to various issues for days at a time, once even weeks, and my baby always happily latched on after with no issues. I'm sure this varies across babies, but a one day pause isn't much at all, I'm sure it will be fine

Yeah, I don't think you'll have a problem. I am on my 3rd week of weaning, and I can tell if I gave my 16 month old the opportunity to breastfeed again, he would take it no hesitation. If your looking to introduce other cups/bottles now, it would be a good time.

@Maria thank you! I’m glad to hear it was like nothing changed, this made me be way more encouraged about it

@Stephanie thank you ☺️!! I think one day just seems like a lot because I’ve never done it, but after reading the comments I think It will be fine, glad to hear you had a good experience getting baby to latch after

@Ann Thank you! I do plan on introducing cup and trying straw cup at this time

Why don’t you postpone your wisdoms tooth removal? Is it an emergency?

I literally just got all 4 of mine pulled. They didn’t sedate me, just numbed me with shots and I was put on amoxicillin afterwards and I breastfed fine. Baby will be fine I’m sure

@Naz yes it is an emergency unfortunately:( . My wisdom teeth are pushing all my teeth in, I also had one tooth break while I was pregnant just eating, that has to be removed, I’ve postponed that for 8 months to take care of baby, but I’m afraid of it being infected. Pregnancy made my teeth super weak.

@Erica im glad to hear your experience was good! If I didn’t have to be sedated I wouldn’t, I asked dentist if they could just numb the area or any alternative but he said he wouldn’t, not sure why
