Back sleeping

I know back sleeping is not good during pregnancy and I have gone 34 weeks trying to avoid it and getting my partner to roll me over in the night if he sees I’m on my back etc but I’m at the point where I wake up in so much pain in my lower back and hips from lying on my side that I thought maybe if I prop myself up to like a 45 degree angle and lay on my back it would be ok? Google is telling me yes it’s ok and no still not ok. Just need someone to tell me if it’s ok or not. I can’t go to sleep not knowing but I’m so damn comfortable and oh so tired 😴

Hi lovely I had this same problem it’s like a relief to go on your back even if just for a short while! I have read later on in pregnancy it’s ok for 30 minutes at a time so maybe try that x

I really feel your pain. I had exactly the same issue with my first. I bought an electric blanket and put it on to soothe the pain in my hips every now and then. It really helped!

Hey, Danielle. I was facing the same dilemma! I’m at 34 weeks too. Baby doesn’t like when I sleep on my right side and my body doesn’t like the left side. I found sleeping on my back so much more comfortable! I knew the answer before my midwife confirmed it but your body AND your baby will let you know what’s okay for you! When something doesn’t feel right, it’s because it isn’t. Hope it helps :) x

Honestly babe I wouldn’t risk it, I’m 35 weeks and struggling with my back and pgp as well which isn’t helped by side sleeping. I do agree with what has been said above like in my first pregnancy we were in fetal medicine and they’d scan me whilst I was lying on my back fortnightly for up to half an hour and after about 15 minutes i’d feel sick and dizzy because that artery was getting crushed so they’d roll me onto my left side so I do agree you know when you need to get off your back but that’s when I was conscious, whilst asleep you may not wake up and realise, I’d just hate to say it’s cool and something happen 😫 we’re so close to the end now! Have you got a pregnancy pillow you can put your weight into? I’m just putting up with the pain/putting a hot water bottle on it when needed as short term pain = long term gain!

I am always waking up unintentionally on my back. I have put a pillow to catch me at a 45 angle. They recommend no back sleeping but if it was a bigger thing they would be plastering it everywhere! You will be fine!

I’m in the same position but with my front. I’ve started sleeping sat up on the sofa with a whole pillow system to keep me comfortable.. also helps with any pelvic pain cos i’m not moving the whole night.

Thank you everyone, you’ve really helped ❤️
