Sleep Training on their own

When did you start helping your baby learn to sleep on their own? What approach did you use, and how long did it take before they were fully sleeping independently? My daughter usually falls asleep while breastfeeding, so I’m not always able to practice sleep training consistently every night. Thanks for any tips! 💕

14-16 months is when my son started putting himself down for his own naps, but he didn’t start sleeping in his own floor bed until he was 20 ish months We started from day one by cosleeping while doing a modified version of the method called “camping” where if baby fell asleep before I was ready to also be asleep I’d sneak away and only come back if I heard distressed awake noises then I’d help him fall back asleep and repeat that cycle until I was also ready for bed. Still to this day at 2 years old we don’t do any “drowsy but awake” transfers, I strap my son in our baby carrier on my back until he falls asleep then he transfers down into his bed. 🤷‍♀️ just what works for us.

@Parker 又 I don’t do the drowsy yet awake either. My son starts to roll and be on his tummy like he’s trying to get up and he wakes himself up and starts crying really bad. So I don’t do that either I kind of do want you’re doing lol and we cosleep too

@Shazia Drowsy but awake is just not a battle I’d ever wanna fight. Let’s all just be sleepy tired fr LMFAOO

@Parker 又 idk it just doesn’t work for me! I’ve tried it and it’s a disaster ! I’ve tried and he’ll literally just sit there forever and scream ! 😑 I’m already dealing with the 6 month regression too lol

I might weaned my girl recently. Cold turkey. Just followed our normal bedtime routine and then said “all gone” when she asked to nurse. It might have been easier as my milk dried up when I got pregnant, so it was just comfort. The first night was hell! But after that it was fine, she now get sin bed and pulls the blanket over her and sleeps so much better. I’m in a single bed in her room at the moment, she still wakes up twice most nights and just wants reassurance that there’s someone there.

Gently trained our first with modified ferber at 9 months and he went down easily + slept through every night from 11 months. Second is 8 months and we haven’t started yet technically, but we’ve done a bit of Ferber out of desperation and I can tell it’s going to take wayyyy longer with her. They’re just all different and she’s never going to be a ‘good sleeper’ unless we go hardcore training. And we’re not into that.
