How to safeguard breastfeeding when leaving for longer?

I'm a scientist who does a lot of fieldwork with students. A typically day in the field is usually 8-10 hours of working in wetlands and hiking to capture amphibians and reptiles. I'm on leave and my guy is 8 weeks old next week. He is BF but with one bottle at night. I'm considering whether I can (or even want to) go into the field for a day to help with student training on a new research project. I'm nervous that being gone that long this early will mess up our breastfeeding (which has gone really well this far). I've only been away for 4-5 hours occasionally so far. We have slow flow bottles and my husband does pace feeding. Are there other things I should consider doing?

if you can pump atleast once preferably twice during the trip I don't see why it would mess with your supply or cause any issues like mastitis. If pumping isn't an option then personally I would give it a miss as you'd likely become very sore and engorged by the end of it xx

Hi Jen. I have been away from my baby on an overnight trip for work at 3 months and since I’ve been away for a whole day (8-10 hrs), He’s 8 months and we are still EBF. Pump (even if it’s in your car) and bring a cooler or even insulated lunch box along with ice pack. Pump every 3-4 hours if you can.

As above. Pump.

Pump n freeze typically the night before.

Lack of milk for that? If so drink all natural mothers milk tea I stand by it
