My son is getting the same, he will pretty much only take a feed before bed now and even then I feel he would happily replace that with weetabix or something, but it almost feels wrong to me to stop. Im going to ask his health visitor next week when she comes about it and see if we can start offering cows milk sooner x
@Charlie 4 times a day. After every wake up and before bed. He’s even titting around with a bottle of expressed milk.
@Sophie this is how I feel too. ‘Feeds’ can be as short as a minute or two now. I don’t really want to stop though, but it is beginning to seem pointless.
@Kirsty we are the same so they must not be taking much at all!? Mine wont accept a bottle either, he prefers water from his straw cup. Hes just really took to food and not interested in anything else😩. But I understand how you feel about not wanting to stop yet! Its quite sad x
I'm not going through it but if it was me. Id maybe start with offering 2 a day and see if he feeds better. Then maybe just bedtime only if he's still a struggle. My friend has a LO 10.5 months and she's just doing nighttime and HV at the review said not to bother with formula because at 12m you then make the switch to cows and probably want to avoid 2 transitions for ease
When I say nighttime I mean the bedtime feed
I wouldn't stop now. It's likely a phase. Is he teething? Some babies will go off the boob when they are teething, others get crazy about it. It's likely he's going through some development and he's just busy. Things change so quickly with them! I would keep offering, always be available, it'll be fine. Breastfed babies are very good at managing their needs for milk. You could drop back on the food slightly to see if that helps, but if he's happy with food and water, just go with the flow.
I’d say it’s a phase too, babies are unlikely to self wean before the age of 2. He’s probably just distracted by everything else that’s going on. Maybe try and feed in a quiet, dark room for a bit to see if that helps. I think most breastfed toddlers get back into boobs in quite a big way, it’s an excellent way to calm tantrums! 😂
I’m not sure it’s a phase, it’s been a gradual decline in interest ever since we introduced food. He LOVES food and drinking water, I could (and have) feed him until he vomits (now I cap it at two bowls plus finger food and yoghurt). I’d like to carry on but worried my supply will dry up if he continues to mess around on it. I wonder if there’s anything in there anymore ☹️
They get so distracted the older and smarter they get. I have to feed my LO sitting on my bed, or sitting kn the back of the car. Also depending how much food they have they can go off breast milk, mine did, so we got rid of his snacks and reduced meal portions. Have a word with your local infant feeding team💚
how often are you currently offering milk?
