What’s your overall knowledge about bf (breastfeeding) while sick? 🤱🏻🤧 Read short description of recent events 👇

I was sick… then my baby got sick. But my husband and my dad are sick too— and I definitely don’t breastfeed them. Someone (who doesn’t breastfeed) told me, “Pediatricians always tell moms that if they’re sick, they’ll pass it to their baby through breast milk.” I said, “Well… my pediatrician has never told me that.” I didn’t push back more because I wasn’t 100% sure in that moment. But minutes after the conversation, I did my research— and learned that breast milk actually helps protect babies when we’re sick. It passes on antibodies, not the cold or flu. The illness spread because we’re in close contact and living in the same household—not from breastfeeding. So now I’m curious: What’s your take?

yes, i knew breastfeeding gives the baby antibodies. being in close proximity is how illness can spread

I’ve never heard that it makes them sick I’ve always known that your breast milk will produce antibodies to protect them from the sickness not only when your sick but when they are as well

The only thing i Q this about it food poisoning vs stomach bugs but even thats supposed to be fine

I’m not sure if I heard about this. When I used to breastfeed and I was sick, I didn’t take any medication due to some can dry your milk supply as what I was told by some mothers and my sister.

Breastmilk passes antibodies to baby. That’s proven. You’re right, the illness can spread from close contact. I can’t remember a time where my babies caught what I had though. Guess they were protected through the antibodies.

Only some viruses (HIV etc) can pass through breast milk. Otherwise, you're passing the antibodies you're producing, so if they catch your illness, they'll likely recover quicker.

Breastfeeding actually help baby not to get sick, give them antibodies. I was sick with the temperature and runny nose and I had to breastfeed anyway, baby didn’t got sick.
