Bottle feeding

This may sound stupid but how do I know how much breastmilk to put in a bottle for a feed? She’s 4 months old (18weeks) and she’s fed by the breast pretty much all the time. But soon she’ll be temporarily using a bottle for a few days and I don’t know how much milk she’ll need for a feed. Is it similar to the formula recommendation for her age? When I pump I only get 3-4oz at most.

My son was quite the little snacker at that age lol 😅. I used to just put like 2oz in a bottle because I didn’t want it to go to waste if he didn’t drink it. Then if he was still hungry, I’d add another oz kind of thing

when at the breast babies typically take 2-3 oz at a time so you can start with that and increase as needed

Feed baby whatever you pump out! I exclusively pump for my seven month old. He eats whatever I pump beforehand which is anywhere from 3.5-6.5 oz. I’ve been pumping since he was 2 months old and the amount has never changed. Always drinks about 4oz

@Alyssa there will be a few pump sessions that I might not be able to use due to medications. And I’ll have to be leaving the bottle feeding to another family member and I really don’t want the milk to go to waste. I do try to always tell myself that milk that is poured is for my babies up in heaven 🤍

@Emily so shall I get them to do 4oz at a time? And get them to try her dummy afterwards? Even after a breastfeed she immediately wants a dummy and not my nipple

Yes! And encourage whoever is giving her bottles to pace feed as described in the info graph, so she’s not having the feed too quickly and is lead by her x

@Emily my family is familiar with pace feeding as our eldest was a preemie

Pacing is so helpful, yes! Only thing to add is sometimes it may take a few minutes once the bottle is done for them to realize their tummy is full. I usually take that time for a quick burp, walk around, and diaper change (as long as baby isn't spitting up too much to lay down). My baby wails when the bottle is done as if he's still hungry, but we've figured out he just needs to be distracted for a minute until he realizes he's full
