C-Section information needed please.

I’m currently 36 weeks and my consultant has put a plan in place that I can be induced from 37 weeks if needed. I have health conditions and this pregnancy is taking its toll on my body. I’m concerned about being induced this time round (I’ve been induced twice before) for some reason I’m over anxious this time and have it in my head that it will be distressing and there end up having to do a C-Section, I’ve no idea why I think this but the thoughts are there and I can’t shift them! My question is do you have to have an epidural when you have a C-Section? I’ve had an epidural before and I definitely never want another one. I’ve no experience with C-Sections so I don’t really know any information.

Yes, there is I think they make you do an epidural or laughing gas, but with you being cut open go for the epidural!!

I had an emergency c section after 14 hours of labour, baby was in distress. They gave me a spinal block. I didn’t have an epidural during labour. I had no issues with it at all. I was shivering and shaking but that was normal and they gave me more warm towels. I couldn’t move my body for a couple hours but it wasn’t as scary as I thought it would be x

One, you should discuss this with your practitioner as hospitals have different procedures. My first epidural wasn't as great as I jolted during. But the 2nd time round, the tech was wonderful, and I had no issues. Regarding the c-section: yes typically you will get an epidural and a catheter. You won't feel anything below your waist. You can ask to be put under completely, but that is the worst-case scenario. Ultimately, talk to the anestiologist and explore your options. Take care!

I had a spinal block. Is that the same as an epidural? If so, it was absolutely fine for me.

My first delivery I got an epidural and then needed an emergency c section so they used the epidural line but the second time it was scheduled and they gave me a shot in my back instead and it was WAY better because I couldn’t feel a thing just a little prick and then nothing from the waist down

I was given a spinal block and my body was resistant to it so it didn't work, however I was then put to sleep for my c section so didn't need a epidural or anything

What was wrong with the first one if I may ask? I don’t know if it’s required but would defiantly recommend it as you’re going to be cut open. I’ve had two c sections and they both went fine. Like T said you might shake a bit and get anxious and you’ll be numb down there for a while but it’s normal! And obviously your incision will be sore for a couple weeks so don’t push it. You got this girl!!

@Danielle The Epidural I had was the most painful thing, it didn’t go in properly the first time, it was done 25 years ago and ever since I had it I suffered back pain which has got worse and worse over the years and I now have disc disease in my back which effects my mobility, so having another one scares the crap out of me!!

As with others, I had spinal block .I had been very nervous about the idea of an epidural and never wanted one. The spinal I think uses same needle but delivers the medicine differently (but I migjt be wrong). The spinal was absolutely fine. They numbed me first.
