**breast fed babies** how often are they feeding?

Hi folks. My baby is 5wk 4 days. How often are your babies waking through the night, and are you setting alarms? We tend to find he goes 10-1.30am ish, then wakes again about 4am, then again 6.30 ish. We are still setting alarms 3 hours apart just incase. He is gaining weight and feeding well. Anyone else set alarms/ is it needed?

My baby is my alarm 🤣 She is 5w 3d & we put her down usually around 10 something pm & she doesn't wake until around 4am most of the time, so only one feeding in the night then she will usually go another hour or two before we get up for the day. As long as they are putting on weight, you don't need to wake them. See how it goes without setting alarms, or start setting them 3.5 or 4 hours apart & see what happens :) Hopefully you get to enjoy a little bit more sleep x

@Steph thanks, I think part of me is just worried incase I don’t hear them! 6 hours is a great stint are they breast fed? The longest we have got is 4 hours! X

My daughter is 4 wks and 3 days and also breastfed, I don’t set any alarms as she’s gaining weight nicely. She will usually go bed around 10/11pm and then wake up around 2 and then around 6ish x

Yes, I am EBF. It took a while to get to this point but finally in a bit more of a routine & the extra sleep helps with the sanity a bit! I obviously can't speak for you, but I have always been the deepest sleeper & yet any peep out of her & I'm awake! Think it's like a built-in mum mechanism 🙏 Keep going anyway, just gradually set your alarms slightly further apart if you are worried. Best of luck x

Either twice or three times between 12-6/7am at 7 weeks 🥲

Breast feeding here and just feed when he wants it. Not sure he's got much of a routine, at least it's always changing. Currently bed about 10/11pm, feed at 1am, 4am and then he keeps making lots of grunty noises whilst he's asleep from about 5am.

Every 2 - 3 hours usually

The last feed before bed is usually around 10pm. She then feeds around 1am, 4am and 7am, so roughly every 3 hours. I don’t set alarms but usually my boobs start to feel really full and my baby starts stirring around that time too. During the day she feeds more often, almost every 2 hours.

My boy is 5w2d EBF and we haven’t been waking him overnight since about 3.5-4wks as he was over birth weight. He often sleeps from 20:30/21:30 - 03:30/04:30 and I’m finally accepting that I should just enjoy the sleep haha I still wake up to his little grunts and whatnot but the extra rest has me a new woman! Especially since I also have 4yo twin boys to deal with on top haha. During the day I feed him every two hours/on demand so he’s had all his calories, that’s what we always got recommended with our formula fed twins to get them to sleep through xx

How are your babies sleeping for so long, I could only dream! My baby is breastfed and is 4 weeks 4 days and wakes every 2 hours, every now and again he will go 3 hours. I’m so tired we are going to bed at 8pm and he usually goes down around 9-9:30. He also grunts alllll night 💙

5 weeks today formula fed, she has a feed around 11pm and then sleeps through till 4am ish and then again around 8am ish ☺️ I go by her, she lets us know when she’s hungry haha I’ve never woken her for a feed! Xx

4 weeks and 4 days old baby here! I have exactly the same question with you. I asked the midwife and they says that I don’t have to wake her up during the night. Initially she woke up every 2-3 hours but yesterday she slept from 00:30-06:00. I woke up at 06:00 panicking and I was the one who woke her up to feed her. She seemed ok and during the day she is catching up with her feeds. It has been advised that as long as the baby is above their birth weight you can let them sleep but not more that 6 hours without feeding at that age (advised by a midwife)
