Nervous?

I have so many questions about having a newborn like I’m nearly 20 weeks now and I have so many questions🤣 I think it’s just my anxiety kicking in🤣 like how regular are you meant to feed? how many ounces of a milk do they have at first? How often do you bathe them? Are you allowed to bathe them straight away? How many sleep suits/outfits should they have for each age range such as 0-3, 3-6?🤣 can anyone give me some advice🫣

I know it’s a bit generic, but I’d say not to worry, that you’ll learn every stage as you get there! Make sure just to have some clothes (I only got bodysuits and onesies as for newborns are so much better you only need 6/8 of each!) some basic toiletries, a bed and a pram 😇 At the very beginning is a learning curve, the baby learns to feed, be in the outside world and you learn to feed her, her cues, and her needs. My memories of the first couple of months,is hours and hours sitting down and feeding and baby falling asleep on the boob and then waking up again and wanting more! So arm yourself with comfortable cushions, a power bank, and Netflix 😆 Then from 3 months onwards they start having more routine and you can track their feeding and sleeping and nappy schedule, there’s apps like baby tracker and huckleberry:) They don’t need a bath straightaway (I waited I think a week after the umbilical cord came off) and just wiped with warm water and muslin cloth. Hope it helps ;)

Get a couple packs for each size. Get newborn as people say they are not in it for long but they are unless you birth a 10lb baby! Get vests long sleeve and short to go under. You can bathe them after the thing falls off the belly button from the cord. If you breast feed it comes naturally . The hospital says feed every 4 hours. You must wake them for the first week or something (can’t remember exactly) but all this advise will be given to you at the hospital xxx

The modern midwife is a great book and was really helpful with my first, but like everyone says above it’s every 4 hours for feeding xx

I’d say do an antenatal course, the nhs should offer them through your midwife, they can help you with any questions you may have but tbh it’s trial and error and learning on the job with a newborn as every baby and every mum wants to do things differently xx

Thank you!!

Get the book first time parent and you’ll be grand! 😊👍🏼

Feed on demand, which means how often baby wants and how much. You’ll soon get to know your baby and what they need. I bathed my son for the first time after a few days and then I just did it every few nights. You can bath them when you want as it’s your baby but they do advise to wait until the cord falls off. I would buy a couple of newborn and then 0-3, maybe 10 of each. They grow so quickly and you can order more if you need to. Amazon Prime is your friend so don’t worry about what you don’t have. You’ll be amazing at how quickly it all just comes together. 😊
