Burglary

Has anyone else ever experienced similar…? We had our contents of our car emptied and stolen a couple of nights ago. Ever since I’ve not been able to sleep, or calm! I can’t help but think of the worse and what could happen if it happens again. I don’t feel safe in my own home and want to protect my babies!

Its not a nice feeling, I get that, but thinking this way will only make it worse for you. Luckily they didn't break into the home, which means they were looking for different things or too scared to break into an actual house, so cars are easier. Do you have a RING doorbell? If not, maybe that might help you because whenever someone is at the vicinity of your door, a little alarm will go off on your phone, and you can immediately check out the camera. That way, IF, and small IF, someone ever comes to your door in the middle of the night, you'll be warned Also, our minds are programmed to be biased. We will always think negatively, our minds are drawn too it. And 95% of the time what we worry about, never actually happen.. So, as a therapist, I always tell my clients to think about their worries this way:

1. What is the worst that can happen? E.g. they break into your home. 2. What is the least likely to happen? E.g. No one ever steals anything from you ever again. 3. What is the most likely to happen? E.g. They were opportunistic thieves looking for easy access and valuables in cars, not homes. They won’t come back, especially now that you're more alert and have likely taken extra precautions. Now do remember: Most burglars don’t want confrontation – they’re after quick, low-risk wins, and now your property doesn’t fit that description. It’s common to feel unsettled after a break-in, but this feeling will fade, especially as you regain a sense of safety.

Your brain is doing what it's designed to do – scan for danger and prepare you. But it's overshooting now. You’re safe, you’ve taken action, and every day that nothing happens, your nervous system will start to calm again. In the meantime, it’s okay to feel wobbly. But try not to feed the fear – let it pass through you rather than build a home in you. I hope this helps. Xx

Thank you so much for this that’s so so helpful! Xx

Pleasure. Glad it can help.x
