Milk during the night

Hi guys! My daughter is 15 months old and soothes to sleep using cows milk. She wakes up quite a lot throughout the night and relies on milk to get her back to sleep. I’ve heard that it helps to switch to water throughout the night to stop babies from being so reliant on milk. But does this mean if I gradually switch her nighttime bottles from milk to water, she will sleep better? Or does it just mean she won’t need milk? Tbh, I don’t care if she drinks milk, it’s the sleep I want😂

It’s usually recommended to reduce the milk intake and water down the formula or milk to water so for example a 6oz bottle you’d start with 5oz of milk and 1oz of water and then gradually reduce it until the water ratio is greater. We’re in the process of reducing it and he’s now on 1oz of milk and 5oz water so hopefully over the next few days he’ll stop wanting a night feed!

@Bethaney okay perfect! Thank you so much!

My son is 14 months and has always been an awful sleeper. He was still waking up 2/3 times a night for milk 2 weeks ago. I tried the watering down method and he didn’t want it anymore and has now slept through for the last week and a half!🤞🏼it’s defo worth a try and I hope it works for you!

@Kimberley that’s so good to hear! Thank you 🥹

I might try this method with my 3yr old 🤣🤣🤣 cos he has never slept through the night.... whereas my daughter is genuinely really good sleeper!

@Elle (i can't see waves) mate, my baby is a shit sleeper, always has been🤣 she wakes up at least 4-6 times a night. I’m TIRED😂

@Becky haha trust me , with my son no off button! He can have dinner , bath etc and i guarantee he's up in like 1 or 2 hrs looll

@Elle (i can't see waves) do we have the same baby? 🤔🤣

@Becky most likely 🤣🤣 haha even today he's been awake since 7am.... he had a nap around 1pm..... he's been up ever since! He just has no chill 🤣🤣

@Elle (i can't see waves) mine has been going to bed at 10:30 every night for the past week and she’s been feral for hours beforehand 😂

@Kimberley did you do it gradually or just switch to water cold turkey?

My daughter wouldn't take water or watered down milk, just made her even more upset, so we ended up going cold turkey, 1 rough night and a little unsettled for a few more and now she'll settle just as fast without the milk

@Becky can I ask what her routine is? It maybe worth changing it to help night times. At 15 months there’s no benefits to having milk in the night and unfortunately it becomes a habit / routine. “I’ve I wake up, I’ll get milk” It maybe worth just going completely cold turkey and not offering milk during the night, unfortunately they are so cleaver at this age and know exactly what they are doing Does she have comfort items? If not it maybe worth trying them instead of giving her milk

@Emily I did it gradually. Just added more water over time but I didn’t have to do it for too long because he just stopped wanting it after I added a noticeable amount of water
