Birth Choice Apppointment

Hi all, I’m planning an elective c section and have my first birth choice appointment tomorrow. Just wondering if anyone has been through this already and can tell me what happens/ what the process is like. I’ve been warned that they may try to convince me to have a natural birth. I also have an Obstetric appointment next week which I’m presuming is a follow up appointment from this call. Thank you in advance Xx

The first question they asked was why I wanted c section. I explained my fears and previous experiences and they were very supportive and skipped all the questions/sections about natural birth. Didn’t feel any pressure if anything they put my mind at rest about what to do if I went into early labour and that c section would still be an option providing I got in quick enough and in her words she isn’t already sticking out. Probably lasted about 15minutes tops?

I think they will definitely try to encourage a natural birth as its a major operation with longer recovery time but at the same time an elective c section helps them monitor how many births in a day etc

@Charlotte thank you this is really helpful - did you then have another appointment to get booked in etc? Xx

I had mine around 3 weeks ago, due to having a 3rd degree tear with my first I was worried incase I tear the same or worse and not so lucky with healing this time round & I also didn’t want to be over due or induced. I made clear that I’m happy to have a vaginal birth of he’s measuring average and I go into spontaneous labor before my section date and she was very supportive and understood. I’m classed as high risk anyway. She told me all the pros cons as they have too, appointment went on for just under 2 hours. She then referred me to another consultant for when I’m 36wks who I’m guessing will do blood work while I’m there, go through consent forms and risks again and my midwife did say that I probably won’t get a date then and there as they will usually phone/send letter to you x

@Beth yes I got another appointment in the post which is with a consultant in a couple of weeks time. I can’t remember with my first but I don’t think they gave me a confirmed date until even closer. Last time it was exactly a week before my due date. However my hospital only do planned c sections on specific days (Tuesday and Thursdays) so you can take a well educated guess. But there is always the chance that emergencies will bump you and I suppose it depends how many are due that week
