What’s your C-section story?

I knew I wanted a section from quite early on, I had been told I had a low lying placenta at 20 weeks. So that just solidified my idea. I felt like I wasn’t taken very seriously when I had mentioned that I would be going the ELCS route, and the only medical person who really listened and agreed with me was my midwife. I was under increased monitoring from 32 weeks due to baby being small for gestational age, so I was going in for weekly scans and consults. Every time I mentioned ELCS I kept getting fobbed off by consultants at each of my weekly check ins. Finally at 37 weeks I threw a paddy and demanded to speak to a senior consultant who signed the paperwork with me that same day. Got the date confirmed the following week. They scheduled it for 39 weeks 4 days. I was fuming it wasn’t at 39 exactly like they normally would do, baby was also fuming too as I went into labour at 6am the day before my planned section, so I ended up in hospital a day earlier than planned and they had to upgrade my priority level. Still ended up having the baby the following day despite contractions and dilating, but there was a massive influx of women who got pushed ahead due to higher emergency status. I learned very quickly what a lovely drug morphine is 🤣 Baby was still born safe and sound via c-section and out of protest he did a massive wee all over the nurses as soon as they pulled him out of me 🤣

Not a good one, a very scary and life threatening one, but everyone’s is different 😂😂

Mine was unplanned not quite emergency but almost. I was in active labor (pushing) for hours before they told.me my daughter was stuck and getting stressed. The problem was my contractions didnt have gaps vetween then it was nonstop so there was no break for her or me and she was faceup. The actual c section was in the middle of the night and i was so tired and out of it that all i remember was after they took her out i was suddenly STARVING and i hated the feeling of them pulling my organs to put things back in. I hated it more than labor. But it still went really well no complications

Mine was unplanned, felt weird & painful and annoying not being able to wake up in the middle of the night and sit up fast enough to breastfeed 😭 I also came to find out that c section babies miss out on the beneficial bacteria they would get via natural births. My baby has eczema so being born via c section has disrupted his gut health causing a little more eczema and delayed gut health🥺 I suggest you ask for “vaginal seeding” so your baby can have that healthy bacteria he/she needs ☺️🖤 If you have GBS (I did) or HSV etc, it may not be recommended. I’m currently giving my son (6mo) probiotics, specially one that has bifidobacterium and Lactobacillus. This is some information that I wish the hospital had told me early on 😩

I had growth scans due to small for gestation too, wanted c-sec but kept being told it’s my first so I should try natural! Had growth scans and consultants weekly, 36+4 growth scan they said he wasn’t growing as much as they’d like so was told I had to have induction, asked for c-sec (senior consult told me it wasn’t medically necessary so no I was being induced) induced 37wks, little man wasn’t ready to come, spent 3 days going through contractions without active labour (0cm dilated and cervix completely closed) was then told after the 3rd day with no change but still contractions and little man getting uncomfortable I could wait 24hrs and try the induction again or if I really really wanted they could try and get me in for a c-sec! Told them I was in so much pain and exhausted from contractions that if I spent another 3 days being induced and it worked I would be too physically exhausted to even push which would likely end in intervention so they approved the csec and I’m so glad!

I went 26 hours in induced labor all natural no epidural. I stopped at 8cm and was there for 4 hours decided to get the epidural to see if that would help it didnt so I needed a c-section because my son was so low in the birth canal that it was causing him issues so had a c-section at 29 hours. I enjoyed my whole labor and delivery and would do it all over again. That being said I’m pregnant with my second and I’m pushing for a vbac this time around because I still want to experience a natural labor with no epidural I just have to have him by 39 weeks to be able to do a vbac because I’m high risk so he has to be born by 39 weeks for both of our safety.

@Megan I’m so glad you also enjoyed your labour experience!! Congratulations on #2!! Fingers are crossed for your vbac lovely xx

Mine was an unplanned, emergency one. I was around 4-5cm dilated and when a student nurse went to check my progress she thought she could feel his ear, they ended up calling in the delivery doctor in to double check. It wasn’t his ear she was feeling it was his mouth, she told me he ‘bit’ her finger when she was checking. Within 20 minutes I was being wheeled down for a c-section, I also felt the knife so I had to be put under which sucked cause I never got to hear his first cry or watch dad cut the cord, I still grieve not experiencing those firsts but it is what it is🤷🏻‍♀️

I had one booked as baby was breech. He was in a very unusual breech position, part way between footling breech and transverse. Because of this they said if I went into labour early the umbilical cord would likely prolapse and baby would bleed out within minutes. Terrifyingly I went into labour 10 days early and my waters broke with heavy blood loss so we thought the cord had prolapsed and that was it. Was rushed to hospital in an ambulance but thankfully when we got there they found baby was still alive and the cord looked ok. Was put on that evening’s list but was then labouring very quickly so ended up going in to theatre about an hour after arriving at the hospital as by this point they were worried a foot would pop out at any moment 🤣 Against the odds he was born with no problems and whilst I had some further complications in recovery I was just so grateful he was ok ❤️

Was expecting to have a natural birth until I was 35 weeks. Fundal height jumped way above percentiles, was sent for a growth scan and my baby was measuring 40 weeks already. Ended up with late onset gestational diabetes. She was also breech and stayed breech until the last minute. Had an elective c section at 39 weeks.

I was having growth scans due to Low-Papp A, my 40 week scan she measured 9lb 6. They were worried about her getting stuck to suggested either induction or CS. Agreed to the induction and after 4 days the balloon finally worked and I got to 2cm but they left me 36hrs as they didn't have space to pop my waters. Got transferred to another hospital and as soon as I walked in they knew something wasn't right. They popped my waters and started me on the drip but babys HR plummeted with every contraction but was stablising when they stopped. This was confirmed with the clip on her head. After about 3hrs the consultant was worried about the contractions and suggested a CS before it became and emergency. Had my section and her cord was round her neck and shorter than what it should have been so every contraction was strangling her. To this day I will always he grateful to the doctor who delivered her ❤️

Mine was an elective planned one and had a really positive experience overall. I was pretty much decided early on I wanted to do a c section (thankfully was supported by the doctors involved in my care) and then as the pregnancy progressed I ended up with gestational diabetes and hypertension. I was first on the list due to the GD all the staff working in the theatre were lovely and was home 27 hours later. I did get an infection in my incision which should have been picked up earlier as I kept complaining at all my midwife check in appointments but was fobbed off it was normal.. it was not.. so recovery was slightly longer than expected. 11 week pp now and no issues with the scar or internally.

I had an emergency C-section after a really hard labor with chorioamnitis, and my daughter got stuck, but it turned out alright. I’d definitely make sure they give you gas x though afterwards. That was my biggest struggle as the gas pain was bad.

I had an emergency c section due to my daughter pooping during labour. I was terrified, it was a pretty calm procedure though. I was in agony for days after, it made me miserable and a little suicidal because I was just sick of being in agony and the nurses mismanaging my pain meds (they wouldn't let me leave while on oramorph). Honestly would take labour on the drip over my c section pain. My birth trauma I think is what caused my PPD because from the moment she was born I didn't want to hold her. I was still too out of it from fear to really comprehend my daughter was here. Luckily got help and I love my daughter so much. I morn those early days tainted by PPD. I will never get that time back and I now have to live with that and move on knowing thankfully I stopped being scared and got the help I needed to get better

Mine was an unplanned emergency. Went in for reduced movements at 37+5. Baby was in tachycardia, was rushed for a CAT1 c section and baby was born unresponsive with his cord around his neck. He is now a happy and healthy 8 week old.
