Potty training help

We started on Saturday as we had a long weekend and he did wonderful Saturday to Monday only 1 accident, he was taking himself off to the potty for both wee and poos, however he went back to nursery on Tuesday and today and he’s not gone to the toilet once. He’s been having many many accidents, but when he gets home is happy to go on the potty. I don’t know if I started too early if I should carry on just at home for longer, he hasn’t got nursery until Monday now. So should I still try Thursday to Sunday or go back to nappies because he isn’t getting it? I feel a little bit like a failure and that maybe I rushed it. Nursery think he probably isn’t ready, I think as he was doing so well at home I got blindsided

Have nursery been prompting him regularly? I think if he's been doing so well at home, continue doing as you have been. It sounds like he's ready, just a bit more support at nursery might be helpful? I tried potty training too and it didn't go as well as yours! So I have gone back to nappies for a couple of months You're not a failure! You're not in control of when your little one poos and wees. You meet them where they are at, and give them lots of encouragement and positivity and they'll get there when they're ready.

@Rachael I believe so but nursery is a very busy place and a lot to do, he has suspected ADHD anyway, both me and his dad are nurospicy as well. So I think he is probably getting really distracted at nursery. They did try he went through about 6 outfits then they put him back in nappies. I do think they give him too much to drink though which doesn’t help

I know very little about potty training, and very little about neurodiverse situations, but I have heard its very common for them to regress at nursery. Sounds exactly as you say- he is distracted and has trouble stopping what he's doing at nursery. My son can't stop what he's doing at home so your little boy is still way ahead there! It's really good for him to have lots to drink, so I wouldn't be concerned about that. I think you just carry on potty training at home and he'll get lots of practice.

Just to reassure you, we had the same last week where she regressed massively at nursery. She had 4 accidents, then 3, then 2. She had no accidents over the Easter weekend and then only 1 yesterday at nursery, and a tiny sprinkle of one today! As @Rachael said, very common for them to regress at nursery. As he was doing so well at home, I would keep encouraging it!

My daughter has been potty trained for nearly 3 weeks now and has done amazingly. The first weekend we were able to go out all weekend and she stayed dry and used the potty. On her first day at nursery though she had 7 accidents 🙈 but after that one slip up she’s been fine. Deffo stick with it! X

My health visitor advised us to commit to pants and not to switch back and forth between nappies in the day. Really offer them potty routinely and celebrate when successful! I also put some cartoons on for her ( I think princess polly on yt) and had conversations about potty training. This really worked for us she’s now potty trained, excluding nappy at night but it’s mostly dry!
