HELP PLEASE

Anyone who’s had a planned c section for a low lying placenta, what week was you booked in for? They’re saying week 38-39 for me but want to admit me at 37 weeks incase my waters break. No way am I staying in for possibly 2 weeks, I’d rather them just book me in for 37 weeks!! Anyone else??? I have an appointment tomorrow to discuss - do I push for a c section at 37 weeks? I’m 36 weeks currently.

Depending on where you are they really don’t like to do them before 39 weeks unless very necessary!

@Emily I’m in England. Hmm I’m just worried I’ll potentially go into natural labour before hand which will be fatal. It’ll put my mind at rest having it at 37 weeks. The baby should be fully viable now!! I have a toddler to look after so being admitted before hand is a no go xx

I totally get it!! I also had to have a c section also for medical reasons- I’m in Canada so may be different here! If baby is all done cooking it’s definitely worth an ask if they will do it early!

@Emily how did you find the c section and recovery? Xx

The c section didn’t go great for me- my uterus wouldn’t contract back and the drugs weren’t working so they had to tie it up but with that said I was in really good hands and they took great care of me! My husband was with me the whole time which was a huge help!! The recovery was surprisingly really good! My biggest advice would be to start walking as soon as you are allowed- small steps like to the washroom and down the hall- slow and steady lol By one week I was doing small walks outside! If you have any other questions please don’t hesitate to reach out!!

The NHS won't typically do a C-section before 39 weeks unless medically necessary. I know a hospital stay isn't pleasant but if it's for the safety of you and your baby then it's worth the discomfort. My waters broke at 23 weeks with my previous pregnancy and I had my c section at 32 weeks so had a fair few stays in hospital each lasting several weeks and it was horrible but worth it because when I was home I contracted sepsis and it was life threatening for us and if I was in hospital at that point I would have been monitored closely and the situation never would have become critical. Hope the best for you and your baby

If they are saying they want you to stay in from 37 weeks it’s for the safety of you and your baby, I get you have a toddler to look after but if you push for a section at 37 weeks you may end up having to stay their anyways for a few days depending on how you recover how quick you get up move around ect. so either way your be admitted to hospital and will need childcare. Also after having a section you won’t be able to lift your toddler or do much due to recovery I would express your concerns at your appt and see what they see x
