Was she awake throughout the procedure ?
They just do it during the C-section - takes an additional 5 or so minutes. Make sure you ask for them to remove your tubes, as this has been proven to prevent many types of cancer, as opposed to just tying them.
I've just properly read your post - there is absolutely zero reason for them to sew you up to reopen the same area. Are you sure you heard that correctly? I would question that and ask that it is done at the same time.
@Kaija yes she was and it was fine
@Kirsty hi yes they told me they would do the c section get all the sewed up then would start sterilisation. We discussed how much tube to remove I said I wanted the most removed I have an appointment with the anaesthetist the week before my c section so I will clarify details then but I was confused as to why they would sew up and then do another operation and like I said the leaflet they gave me also wasn’t helpful as it was for women who were just being sterilised and not having a c section as the same time
@Kaija that seems really odd. That's not "standard" practice in the UK. I would definitely question it. Is there maybe a reason why they would do it after? It would cause you to miss out on those first few hours with the baby, it seems really counterintuitive.
Also, just an added benefit of having them removed, they will also send them off for testing to make sure all the cells are normal, just a little bit more peace of mind ☺️
I had my tubes removed during my csection, only took a few extra minutes. It was all one procedure and didn’t add anything to recovery etc
@Kirsty yeah I thought it was very strange so I’m not sure. Unfortunately I don’t no anyone who has gone through similar so I’m having to try and find other ways of finding people who have been through it. I’m glad to hear they will check the cells and that !
I had this done during my section. They do it while they got ya open, so you don’t have to come back and get re-opened. I was awake and the recover was about the same. I’m 2 months pp and feel 95% healed
Maybe they meant closing up the uterus first. Then sterilization. Then close up the other layers of the belly.
I had it done during my fourth c section. I stayed awake for both. The c section took longer than my others by about half an hour but afterwards I healed as normal. I had clips put on my tubes to seal them. My periods are still heavier and more painful since getting it done, 7 years later but I'm happy with my decision. x
I got sterilised during my C-section I was awake the whole time 😊
@Kaija good question- although I don’t think that really matters as you won’t feel anything x
They tied my friends tubes while doing the c-section
