@Karen I'm in the uk, can barely find mother and baby changing rooms here nowadays let alone a nursing space. Did you overcome it after a while?
Department stores like John Lewis have feeding rooms and shopping malls, also the car is a good spot. Perhaps plan a trip where you know there’s a space to feed for the first few trips out, just to build your confidence. You can buy nice feeding tops and a shawl/cover-up type thing. It can also help to have someone with you who can provide reassurance and guard your space if you need. I was a little worried at first but quickly got over it once baby and I had got the hang of things. Now I just do it anywhere and don’t care who’s looking. I’ve never ever had a comment before which I was expecting! I’d bite their head off if anyone dared to now 😂 Breastfeeding is so beautiful and rewarding. Tough for the first few weeks but I’m so glad I persevered. Good luck, you can do it 😊 x
I would try to find some local breastfeeding groups or something similar. If you're surrounded by others breastfeeding then chances are you'll feel better doing it yourself, and if you get used to it in that environment then it's easier to do it elsewhere too. Also try breastfeeding in front of a mirror. Sounds weird, but it lets you see what others see whilst you're feeding, which is basically not a lot apart from the back of baby's head
I was pretty shy about it too, if I could I would find a nursing room, not sure where you are located but in Canada they are pretty common in malls. I also had a lot of luck finding them in Asia. Sometimes I would just go back to my car to feed. If I couldn't I would find a private corner and use a muslin cloth to cover
