Cut on Nipple?

FTM here… What do we do when we get a crack in our nipple? Two nights ago while baby boy was nursing on my right side, it was super “pinchy”(if that makes sense). Then today, it was the same pinching feeling while he was latched and noticed what looks like a cut on the side. I put some breastmilk on it, as well as some lanolin cream. But what other remedies have worked for you ladies?

People will tell you to keep nursing but a nipple injury is agony. It’s harder to keep clean and heal imo if you nurse while injured. Use cream, use silver nipple shields and then take a break from feeding by pumping on that side. I find it’s less painful and you can adjust strength of the pump. Change your breast pads often. If you take a short break, it should heal pretty quickly. Mine took 4-5 days. Good luck!!

@Jay thanks! And strictly pumping on that one side for a couple days won’t affect my supply?

the exact same thing has happened to me!!! it’s so painful

@Amy Not to my knowledge. Personally, pumping helped me retain my supply. I pumped when baby would normally feed and it was fine. Just be careful of over doing it because you can become quite engorged in a matter of days.

My boy has given me a blister this week because his latch was poor due to teething and oh it’s been painful! I’ve been feeding regardless because he’s 17 months & I do not have the energy to pump anymore. I’ve been using warm compresses, lanolin and gently rubbing in the shower. I’ve taken ibuprofen when I’ve needed it to give some pain relief. This is for blisters, really not sure about cuts, but soaking in Epsom salts can help.
