Night feeds

My 5 day old is waking up every 30 minutes for a fed. I’ve trying everything. Nappy change, burping, rocking to sleep. Nothing works cus all he wants is to be attached to me. Any ideas?

Same here but 18 days pp. It’s hard work isn’t it 🥴 Look up the “4th trimester” it’s normal to have no routine, cluster feeds and for baby wanting to be held - I think it’s about giving it time

Unfortunately if you’re breastfeeding that’s just what happens. Cluster feeding and your milk is even tastier at night apparently. If you can get dad to place wee one down in the crib. They can smell milk off mum

I am breastfeeding and it’s hard cus I’m alone. It’s just me that can put him down. My c section scan can’t take much more of the up and down in one night

Oh Kelly. Sending you lots of support. Feeding after a section is so hard x

It will get easier, your milk is probably only just coming in and regulating. Baby will feed loss to get supply up to where they need, but once they’ve done that, they should be able to go longer stretches between a feed. My little boy is 2 weeks now and managing about 3 hours between breastfeeds at night. Hang in there!

Hi I’m actually quite surprised you managed 5 days. My 7 days old was exactly the same and on day 3 I started transitioning to formula overnight. I was scared of not latching ever again as they made you believe so I used the syringes I bought for the colostrum and gave him formula… that night gave me a good 1-1.5 hours between feeds. And since then I’ve been using bottles overnight unless my breasts are too full in which case I make him empty about 3/4 or half each and I top up with a little bit of formula and he entered a pattern of 2 even 3 hours sleep… I don’t know how you feel about formula but to me that made absolute wonders. Also tried with pumping up my milk in the morning, but that didn’t work as planned (could be different in your case) because they still digest your milk a lot quicker so… that would only give you breasts rest but no sleep time. He is latching perfectly to breast..

I know it’s not recommended, but co-sleeping and topping up with formula have made a huge difference for us. We’re following all the safety guidelines, and now we’re only waking twice a night. Baby seems so content being close to mama, and I’m feeling so much better too. Waking up every hour for a full hour of feeding and changing was just exhausting.

Same..... I have a 4 day old. It's called cluster feeding apparently. And should get better soon. I've also had to cosleep a little and top up ocassional with formula

@Tanya hey! How are you co sleeping as I may need to try this! X

@Katie if you google it , there are lots of advice on how to do it safely. Make sure there is no pillows and duvet around baby. Keep the baby next to you, not between to adults. Lie on your side, curled in a “C” shape around your baby, with your arm above their head and knees below their feet. Place your baby on their back. Xxx
