I definitely felt this. I’ve raised children before you’d think I’d be ok but there’s something about it being your own baby that makes the fear feel so extreme. It does get better. Funny enough; besides my mom and my pediatrician answering questions, TikTok helped a lot. Hearing from other moms about their experiences and pediatricians sharing info is so helpful. Newborns are odd little characters so there are so many things that are normal but we see as scary or worrisome. Just breathe and document notes just in case but remember you’re learning about this new human and they are learning too. Be patient with yourself.
I was the same way and it gets better
It does get better, but sounds like you may be dealing with post-partum anxiety (PPA). The first couple of weeks are especially rough because sleep deprivation and hormones and general adjustment, and that's normal to some degree. If it's ongoing, it could be something more. I see a psychiatrist via Talkiatry. Due to past experience with PPA I got therapy established during pregnancy, and had the psych for meds I was taking already. Had an appt today to discuss meds actually, but I stopped my previous medication during pregnancy because I couldn't remember it consistently, so that puts me in a gray area for taking it during breastfeeding. I'm only 2 weeks postpartum so it's still a little early to gauge my needs, and I have another appt set up for next month.
