Am I overreacting?

My husband’s mom came over the other day and kept saying she wanted to hear the baby cry since she hasn’t heard a baby cry in years. She didn’t get to bc he was fairly content that day. Fast forward to today they were on the phone and she was still complaining he didn’t cry, my husband said he’d send a video to her next time the baby cries… it’s bothering me a lot. Why does my son’s discomfort need to be entertainment for her? Idk …am I overreacting?

No you’re not, I wouldn’t entertain it. It’s weird xx

I think she forgot how amazing it is to have a quiet baby instead of a crying one.

This is super weird. Would be normal for her to want to hear coos or "'talking", why would she want to hear crying???

Not overreacting It's very odd.. I'd hate if someone said that as it means they're uncomfortable or upset with something/someone which is not entertaining in my eyes

Not overreacting that’s odd and would make me not want to let her watch my child either. Like what’s she gonna do, pinch my kid? That’s bizarre to me.

That's a weird thing to want to hear.

How weird. Tell her to watch a YouTube video of a baby crying and stop bringing it up.

Tell her you do everything in your power to not make your baby cry. Ask her why his distress is enjoyable to her?

Weird AF, I’d be very suspicious of her. As someone said above I wouldn’t let her watch my child, like is she going to enjoy making them cry?

Please dont come at me, but most of the time, it is us female driving each other crazy.like why, she wants to hear your baby cry for? A baby's discomfort makes her happy, so weird, mother in laws are seriously something, monster in laws 🙃😎😎😎 men and father in laws aren't as bad, men aren't that pushy and mean to other moms

Bizarre I feel like there's more to the story, maybe trying to show that you make your baby cry or something?

It’s weird, but I sort of get it. A brand new baby’s cry is a very distinct noise. I think my 3 month old has already grown out of it. I was walking her in the pram a month or so ago and she was crying (I was on my way home) and a woman said “I know it’s weird, but I love that noise”, and then proceeded to tell me about her teenage kids and how new baby cries make her broody (she was a very nice lady and told me I was doing a great job) Weird she keeps asking, but I think it’s a thing

Maybe you could ask her to do the same and she'd take the hint? Just ask her to cry a bit. Say,that it's been awhile you heard people of her age cry. Obvs kidding but yeah, that's weird. I think the weirdest thi g is that she's not letting it go for me

Why don’t you say that “why do you need my son’s discomfort to entertain you?”

Weirdddddd

Not at all! That’s so weird! That’s probably a sound most people would say they hate.
