Depends on where the window is. A window on the first floor at normal height where anyone can walk right up to it, I would want it closed. A window on a higher floor can stay open. We regularly leave our third floor windows open.
There’s no fly screen on the windows? I don’t mind my windows open- any of them. But we have fly screens on them, no one can get in or out through the windows god forbid I lose my keys or something one day coz I won’t be able to climb in.
@Kellie fly screens.on windows aren't really a thing in the UK
I don't see the issue with having a bathroom window open, I also leave my hall way window open. Hallway I struggle.to reach to open so noone is getting out of there. Bathroom you have to climb into the bath and kids would have to climb up and stand on bath side, to reach it. Which we would hear over the monitor. You can get child locks that means the window will only so far
@Kath but you have GINORMOUS CRANE FLIES
I wouldn’t want it open overnight either. But out of interest, are you worried about a break in? Or about your children accessing the open window? Or both?
Closed. Your husband is the one being ridiculous - why is he so insistent on it being open?
Why do you just get up and shut it when everyone goes to sleep? Doubt it’s something you needed to even discuss with him.
I would also close it. My little brother fell out of a 2nd floor window when he was 2, and luckily only broke his femur. But that window was hard to reach, had obstacles in its way and was locked in a position that only kept it ajar and he still managed to climb up and squeeze out whilst my mum was in another room for maybe 5 minutes! Kids are tricky buggers
@Ella haha had to Google what these were, I know them as long legs 🤣🤣
Mine are locked by key im too paranoid one of my kids will fall out the window
If I leave mine open I’m paranoid someone will climb up into it with a ladder 😭😭😂😂😂
@Rosa both. For my anxiety everytime I hear a noise overnight I feel like it’s possible someone could be getting in (obviously they won’t be, but I struggle to relax knowing it’s a possibility) but my 3 year old is climbing everything now so definitely think about that too!
@Carol💗💙 if we stay somewhere and we are in the same room as the children then I am also happy sometimes to leave a window open. It’s the worry I won’t hear them moving to it or that if spending does break in that their rooms are next to the bathroom, so someone could be in and at their rooms before I’ve hear anything and it terrifies me

@Dana 🦅♥️🤍💙 totally get the logic but I still worry about someone climbing up because we have a conservatory, it would be quite easy for someone to get in if they wanted to (I know obviously, logically, no one wants to, but I just can not take the risk)
@Kath locks might be the best option tbf!
I would be the same! And you should be living in such a way that you have a chance to at least try to sleep at night without worrying about this.
@Olivia It shouldn’t be another job on my mental load to sneak out and do it. I’m in a good relationship and like that I can discuss anything with him, he is more than welcome to disagree and not see why I would want it, tbf I told him last night that even if the only reason he does it is because it will help me to sleep soundly at night then is that not enough
I never told you to sneak, and I’m happy you can talk about anything. It personally just seemed basic to me as I wouldn’t have even thought to discuss it with my hubby lol I agree with you that shutting the bathroom window in the night should be done though, I shut mine every night without fail because of spiders 😂 (luckily our bathroom window is still too high up for the little one to climb out or anyone to climb in) xx
@Olivia yeh sorry maybe wrong word, totally get you and agree it’s so not worth a battle really! So good to hear what people think because I sometimes am confused when he’s doesn’t see my point of view, I genuinely think that main prob is my mom brain really struggles to switch off with endless keeping them safe!! 😅😅😂
I live the US and in an apartment with no central heat and air unit. Our bedroom window stays open all night long and we live in a one bedroom so the kids sleep in that room. Why don't you want it open
