How much to pump

My little one is one month old and I have been exclusively breastfeeding so far. I’m looking to introduce one feed of pumped breast milk a day so he gets used to a bottle and other people can feed him if I’m ever away. How do I know how many ml I need to pump to replace one feed? Do we let him have as much as he wants or can you over feed babies fed by a bottle?

I think it's about 3-4oz per feed for a 1 month old. We are doing this right now and my daughter is one month and a few days. Give her a bottle of breastmilk or formula that is 100-125ml

Just replace your last feed of the day before bedtime with a bottle and completely pump off from both breasts, I do the 666 method for storage. You'll probably find that little one will sleep a bit better on the first half of the night too :) and because the milk would have been pumped off the day before at the same time as the bottle is being given it will contain all the hormones for sleeping, you may need to do a top up feed for comfort to start with but they'll soon not need it! I've been doing this method since about day 3 with my second and it also helps with not getting engorged throughout the night!

What is the 666 method?

@Rachel it's for storage, after pumping the milk off you can store for 6 hours at room temp, 6 days in the fridge and 6 months In the freezer. You'll probably find it easier to pump for time rather than for an amount and it will help with your supply too :)

I just pump for 20mins on one side and that's always been enough or slightly too much. My LO just stops when he's full or he'll scream for more if he needs it. He's 6 weeks now and had about 3oz last time

Thanks for the help, I think I was worrying and overthinking it!
