Childminding advice

Hey guys I’m here for advice. I’m starting my childminding business this year wading my way through all the paper work. If anyone knows a childminder that has some experience can u ask them to throw me some random advice/tips. Trying to pre anticipate to prevent future issues 🙂 xo Mums on here: 1.what do you look for when searching online for a childminder? 2.what do you look for when you visit the house for the first time? 3.what do you expect from your childminder? Food/nappies provided or not? 4.would you be willing to pay extra if food and nappy stuff was provided?

I’m looking to do the same next year. I’ve been a nanny for ten years but with my own, I think it’ll be easier to do childminding instead of commute to a nannying job. Have you spoken to anyone from Tineys? I had a call with them a few months ago and they were really helpful with guidance and suggestions, so maybe reach out to them.

Hello, we currently use a childminder, see my answers below! 1. All info was on the council childcare section of the website (hours, price, funding, qualifications£ 2. Cleanliness, toys/activities around, sleeping arrangements 3. I was not fused on nappies/food being provided, we provide our own 4. Depends on cost as we usually make lunch for the family to take for the day so it doesn’t really cost much to make a smaller portion for her to have at the childminders x

We used an amazing childminder for nearly 4 years. My answers… 1. we used childcare.co.uk - main things I looked at were days/hours available and location. 2. Cleanliness, toys, signs of actual children being there (we visited one and the vibe was just off, house was way too tidy and all toys were away - we visited in the week when kids were there and it was so quiet!). The one we used, she had a play area to the side of her kitchen, kept tidy but toys were accessible for the kids. Her garden space was small but well thought out for kids playing and in the summer there was free-flow in & out. Sleeping arrangements. She had 2 cots upstairs and spare room downstairs with bunk bed & another single. 3. Food was my main expectation as I really hate trying to feed my kids 😂🫣 Outings every now and then. 4. We paid £9ph and this included food, we provided nappies but she provided wipes, sacks etc. No biggie for me to throw nappies in a bag each day.

Hi Childminder here 👋 you’ll love it! Only advice is stick the hours you set to work. It can be hard to set a work life balance. At the start I agreed to hours I didn’t want to work as I was worried about getting the business and I regret it as it made it harder in the evening for my own children. Also keep receipts or note of expenses it’s makes it easier for the tax bill. However it’s the best decision I ever made! I love being a childminder, every day is different! I wish you the best in your journey xx
