Hi everyone, I have GD and currently i'm trying to diet control it however it's just not working, no matter what i eat it's always high. Has anyone been put on insulin and if so how high were your sugars to be put on it?

How are your fasting levels ? My fasting has always been really bad, never had a single green result. I was diagnosed at 14 weeks and nothing worked then was put onto metformin which got upped to 1g.. since 16 weeks I've been on insulin and currently on 64 units at night which still doesn't work. They also gave me a different insulin to try with dinner to try help with lowering my levels, still don't work. On Friday they decided to give me a libre 2 monitor for my arm to check my levels constantly ! This is also my 3rd time in 3 years with gdm, I found carbs are a big fat no for me x

@Naomi fasting levels are always lower than what they wants them to be, they were fine until about a week ago! i'm seeing the diabetic team on wednesday so hopefully they'll do something about it, i just don't ever get an "in range" reading 🤦🏽‍♀️

I’m on fast and slow insulin, they didn’t try me with diet first just straight into insulin, the highest my sugars have been is 11.5, and that’s whilst I was away, the lowest I’ve had is 3.2 which was my first hypo, my fasting bloods vary depending on what I had for my tea the night before, the highest they have been is 7.7, I’m in 8 units of fast insulin before every meal, 10units at night with slow. They told me with my bloods they should of been sitting at 39? 42 is the highest they can accept and I was 44 but that testing my glucose as I couldn’t do the actually gdt in hospital due to sickness xxx

Have you joined the Gestational diabetes Facebook group? They've also got a website which has been amazing with advice- it talks about pairing foods & gives recipes. This morning was the first morning I've had a lower fasting level. It's been a case of trying different things to see what works for me.

I've just started metaformin last week after a week of testing/duet controlled. My post meal bloods are fine but fasting ones are too high. Started on 1 tablet a day with evening meal and increased every 3days. Currently taking 3 tablets and fasting is still high. The most I can take is 4 so I think if that doesn't work they'll start me on insulin. Fasting atm is around 6. They've said there's nothing meal/exercise wise I can do for fasting levels and it's just my pregnancy causing it. Food wise I'm eating pretty low carb which is helping the post meal tests xxx
