Are you opening gifts at the first birthday party?

Are you planning to open gifts at the first birthday? I never considered not doing this, but my mother in law suggested it. Upon googling it seems like it might be unpopular to open gifts? As a gift giver I love seeing gifts opened…and I want the photographer to photograph gift opening. Is this bad taste now?

Idk this has always been done at parties especially for younger kids. The only reason why we might not have her open all her gifts at her party is cuz I want to set some of them up, like her swing/slide set, pool and splash table. Other than that she's opening gifts 🤷‍♀️

My family has always opened up gifts. My daughter's birthday party was yesterday and we opened gifts in the dining room. Those who wanted to participate did and those that didn't (the men lol) stayed in the living room.

We are even if they are ones to be set up at one they will be excited to just open stuff then get to be excited again seeing them put together yk

This kind of died in my area/circle in the 90s. I don't want to waste time on that stuff that could be spent letting the kids play and everyone see one another, and it feels icky in case people spend more or less money and feel weird about what they got. It might depend on what kind of party it is, though. If it's a small family party, I'd think it's a lot less weird than at a big party with tons of family and friends at a hall, you know?

We opened at the end of the party once everyone left. It was just my parents, my aunt and my fiancés nana and a close family friend of ours.

If it was a party in the home then yes open the gifts but here in UK we take the presents home from a party
