Weaning

Hiya mummas! I’ve started to wean my little girl and she is LOVING it. Just wondered how many times you’re feeding purées (or whatever) to your little ones? She has her usual feeds in the morning, has either half of a big pouch or a full small pouch around her lunchtime feed and then her usual bottle feeds for the rest of the day. She’s really really enjoying it but don’t want to over feed her. My partner says maybe doing a bit of baby porridge with her morning feed to build it up slowly But just wondered what others are doing and to get some guidance really

We’ve tried twice a day! Gone for a porridge in the morning and maybe some veggies for luck or dinner! Go with baby! If baby won’t have it then there’s no harm done!

@Lucy thank you, think I’m gunna try that tomorrow! She seems to be a huuuuge foodie

We do morning bottle 6am, between 9-10, baby porridge and some fruit pouch , 12-1 bottle, 4-5 purree veg and some fruit pouch, 630-730 bedtime bottle

We’re doing two meals a day! Felt a bit bad as a few people were surprised but you know the baby is thriving and when he full he spits it out so I feel like I’m doing the right thing. He has oatmeal in the morning and veggies for lunch

@Leah thank you that falls time wise with my little girl so that will slot in nicely!

@Luba yeah I’ve only started this week so that’s why I only did one but she’s so interested in food and is always mimicking eating when me and her dad do so thought it’s the best time to increase it!

We do a yoghurt, fruit or melt puffs for lunch then puree veg for tea that’s how we’ve been doing it for over a week since we started and he now gets upset if he sees others eating and he doesn’t have food

8am milk, 9/9.30am breakfast (breakfast pouch, fruit or toast), 12pm milk, 2/3.30pm lunch (veg pouch, eggs, avocado, toast, pancakes, muffins, fruit ect), 5pm milk & 10pm milk

My daughter has a full pouch of flavoured porridge for breakfast then 4oz milk. Then normal milk all day and half a pouch for tea if not more

Thank you all, this has been really helpful and I’m feeling far more confident increasing her meals! Got my whole day planned out tomorrow! (Now watch her throw the routine out just to spite me 😂)

We started with just like baby rice/ porridge for dinner time but that was at like 4.5 months as he was so hungry, he now gets a bottle at like 5:30/6 then at like 9:30/10 he gets baby porridge with purée, bottle at lunch time bottle at like 4ish then he gets his dinner before bed he was having a bottle with his dinner but stopped taking it so just kept it like this without the bottle he now gets like a savoury main such as a purée with baby rice then a yogurt with fruit purée then sometimes like melt puffs or something extra on the side to chew on for a different texture we give him this with boiled water to wash down etc since he stopped taking his bottle

Honestly do it all at their own pace, my daughter loved food and moved up to 3 meals a day where my son has been weaning for a couple months now and only has 2 meals a day. Just see how she gets on and if you feel like she needs a little more a breakfast time then maybe introduce a little bit of porridge it’s all on how baby is coping. I would suggest if you’ve just started just keep it on the 1 meal a day and then go from there, she’s only just getting used to it all so before you introduce anything further allow her to get used to the extra that she’s getting! xx

My little girl is breastfed but our usual routine is milk as normal (on demand) so usually around 5/6am then 8/9am, then around 10am I give her some porridge, then she’ll have another milk feed around 12 midday, then she’ll have a veg melt stick as a snack around 1ish (Ella’s kitchen ones - been great getting her used to finger foods!) and another milk feed at 3-4ish, then she’ll have a veggie meal either blended fresh or pouch at around 6ish and another milk feed at 7ish & 10pm ish then she’s asleep for the night. She’s a huge foodie and constantly wants something to eat 🙈 but is somehow still only bang average on the 50th centile!

Baby porridge especially kendamil one is brilliant my little boy loves it he has a full bowl of porridge every morning

@Abi I scanned this in the yuka app and it came back very very low, it’s not the best x

I'm doing Ng breakfast and dinner! Sometimes she only eats breakfast and sometimes she eats both! She's in charge of how much/little she eats! Sometimes she just throws it but it's all part of her learning about the textures and stuff so it's still a successful meal!

Just an update, she’s having a fruity yoghurt in the morning and hour after her first bottle, we then have a bit of water in between to help with weaning constipation and then another bottle and then puree an hour after that. One day she ate both and the next she only had her lunch. Wasn’t interested in the breakfast at all. I’m completely taking her lead 😊 but so far so good!
