Low PAPP-A

Hi all, I have just received a letter saying I have Low PAPP-A. This is my third baby but my first time of even having this let alone hearing of it? Any advice or knowledge would be appreciated thank you! 🥺 I’m nervous ? I have been put on aspirin but anything else anyone recommends to help would be great. And any success stories too pls. Will do some research myself also !

Hiya I had low pappa, was on aspirin too but all it meant for us was extra monitoring and scans, he is nearly 5 weeks old now and very healthy - I was worried at first too but it really didn’t affect us. There is a Facebook group you can join too with lots of people on there and most don’t have any issues x

Hi there, I had this and it stressed me out so much as a first timer but honestly try not to worry about it! Wish I knew more and understood better to save myself a lot of mental stress. It’s something they’ve only started doing recently as through studies over years it has been noted that small babies or mothers who suffer preclampsia have low Papp-a and if a mother has had it before they have been given aspirin for their next pregnancy or if picked up in late pregnancy were given it to help. It was therefore decided to check for Papp-a during the combined testing phase and in order to help reduce the chances of small baby or precampsia or growth issues (Papp-a being the growth hormone) aspirin is recommended to thin the blood so the Papp-a that the placenta is providing goes further and hopefully provides better for baby. It’s been explained to me as a non environmental thing so they can’t say that it’s diet or the mother or the father or habits that causes it, it is just how

—- the placenta has formed. It’s impossible to tell if the baby is going to be small or have issues associated with low Papp-a until the final trimester so it is a bit of a wait and see. I’m now at term and my baby has recently shot up in growth and I can’t say for sure the aspirin helped or didn’t help but the midwives said the stats of people having small baby or preclampsia have drastically reduced so you never know! I felt a bit wild mentally in terms of being told my body wasn’t producing what it should for my baby and since no one I spoke to had heard of it was quite overwhelming but I certainly feel better about it now. It’s entirely possible many people have had it but where it’s only just being tested and supported we won’t know.
